Pregnant after 35

Had two interesting bouts of false labor this weekend

So, I've been having BH contractions over the last couple weeks with increasing frequency, however, they never seemed consistent enough to be acutally "timeable". This weekend, though, was a diferent story.

Saturday evening: Around 11pm started having BH. Had about 6 that were 10-12 min apart and then they became 5-6 min apart for about an hour. I started getting cautiously excited, but decided to get to bed and get some sleep as they started to wane in intensity (and regularity). Had a doozy that woke me up at 3am--then timeable for every 10 min until 5am. Fell back asleep, then none...false alarm.

Sunday mdday: Sitting on couch starting having the contractions. Had 4-5 that were 8 min apart then about another hour of BH 5 minutes apart. This time, DH says "I need to start packing my things in the hospital bag!". I told him to relax and that I was not optimistic. So, decided to take a shower. Had two more BH in shower at 5 min intervals, then nothing for about 3 hours. After that only intermittant contractions. Unfortunately, I was right. False alarm #2. Ugh.

So, for those who've just had their babies or are on #2+, has anyone had these kind of false alarms and did they happen soon before you went into real labor? I'll be 39 weeks on Thurs, so I know the end is in sight, and I'm fine (within reason!) with going the 40 weeks or beyond as needed, but I still feel remarkably unprepared. I'm actually glad I didn't end up calling the Dr. or going to L&D only to find out it wasn't the real deal.

Those false alarms are frustrating, though...
