Crockpot oatmeal

I need to adjust the water amount but overall it cam out and once I added some molasses and nuts, next time dried fruit, it wasn't bad.  It was definitely "creamy" like the book said.  But, there were some chewy bits in their which I like.  I'd make it again.  And it was nice that it was already ready to go this morning without me having to go through the whole process on the stove to make my normal oatmeal which takes me a good 20 minutes usually from start to finish.

Re: Crockpot oatmeal

  • whoa. i didn't know you could do oatmeal in the crockpot!  that's brillant!  i must ask....was it regular oatmeal that you cooked or steel cut oatmeal?  it takes forever and a day on the stove.  a crockpot is an awesome idea!
  • Loading the player...
  • The book says you can do either.  I actually gave it a try with multi-grain oatmeal.  I'll try it with regular and steel cut another time.  Put 1 cup oatmeal in pot with 4 cups water with I think 1/4 tsp of salt and put on low overnight.
  • Ah, my wifey is brillant!! I know I married her for a reason! I must do this. I struggle to get to work ontime every.day. b/c I have to eat oatmeal to keep my supply up. This would make life sooooo much easier. I will try it tonight!
  • Hi wifey!  Yep, it wasn't bad.  I will say that is creamy though because the oatmeal does break down.  Just have your stuff ready to add in the morning so you don't take so much prep time then.
  • hmmm. Last minute thought: Steel cut or regular? Which did you use? We only have regular.
  • I just used regular oatmeal.  Oldfashioned kind.  You can use either old-fashioned or steel cut though.  I'm going to get some steel cut to try next.
  • Thanks! I want to try steel cut, but they are so expensive at the regular grocery store and we have no Trader Joes nearby (I hear they have it cheap there).
  • I shall be making oatmeal tonight.  THANK you for posting this!
  • I eat steel cut oats in the morning but don't use any milk just water and I'm afraid it will turn out too gummy in the crockpot.  It only take me 13 minutes to make and DS and I share a banana in the meantime.
