The pedetrician at the hospital said to wait 2-3 mo before going to like Target and the grocery store etc. How long did you wait? What did your pedetrician say?
About 2 weeks til I went shopping. We had her out to the drs office and return trip to L&D in the first week which is pretty germy IMO... I had to get out by 2 weeks!
That pedi is on crack if he expects you to hibernate in your house for 2-3 months. Our pedi said 2 weeks is fine to take LO places as long as there aren't a lot of people trying to touch or hold him...and DS was and still is fine.
We went grocery shopping when she was 4 days old. I just didn't let anyone touch her and it was a quick trip. At 10 days old we went out for lunch with her. I just fed her before we left both times. You can go out as soon as you feel comfortable just don't let people grab at the baby
We took him out at 5 days old. He had a pedi appointment that afternoon, but we took him to lunch at a restaurant beforehand. He did wonderfully, slept the entire time. We take him to Target at least once a week, and are heading to the grocery store in a few minutes. I can't imagine waiting 3 months to go out, that's ridiculous if you have a healthy child. It's not like you're going to let random strangers hold, kiss or otherwise handle your child (I hope!)?

That seems crazy to wait that long. DS went to the grocery store at 5 days and has gone to several restaurants, Target, etc. We're also flying across the country next week.

I had an LC appointment when she was 3 days old so she went to that. Afterward we went to Target, SIL's house then MIL's house. She slept most of the time and nobody touched her at the store.
My situation is a little different since we adopted, so we were stuck in a casino hotel in Reno with a newborn for almost a week so he has been "out" since he was three days old. I had him safe in the moby, so noone could get close to him...but boy if you want to be super judged by strangers just walk through the lobby of a casino hotel with a newborn!
I think walking through a mall with a baby secured to you in a wrap is better than walking through a hospital...sick people go to the hospital not the mall
Re: How soon did you take your newborn out in public
I waited about 2 weeks.
After being in the hospital for so long on bedrest, I was dying.
I went to lunch w/ my mom and bought FI a bday gift.
We went to Target after 1-1.5 weeks. Doc was a little more conservative but I had to get out and DS was fine.
