Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If your LO eats blueberries, please come in.

Does it make their poop black?

Up until now, Ben has never really had more than one or two blueberries at a time.  On Saturday, I bought a container of organic ones for him.  Yesterday, he easily ate 3 dozen of them in one sitting.  This morning when I changed his poopy diaper, it was black.  Please tell me this is normal.

  • Yes! I was just going to post this earlier! It's black and dusty almost, and the dust on her skin is really hard to wipe off.

She can eat blueberries by the bucketloads it seems. lol

  • It's totally normal for my DD if she eats a lot of them.
  • It turns Bradys darker, but not black.

Does his poop look like coffee grounds as well?

  • Yep and very hard to wipe off. Sometimes they come out smooshed but whole. DD looooves blueberries but I let her eat a ton because they're a low sugar fruit and so good for you.  :)

  • I have only given Chase a handful of blueberries at a time once or twice before. We didn't have any blue/black poop, but I heard it is normal. Just like pooping out raisins whole is normal. LOL

That is all the little seeds.

  • yes - black poop is pretty normal with the blueberries. DS loves blueberries and they often come out looking the same as they did going in. So not fun when you have cloth diapers...
  • yep -same thing happens to DD.

  • No, not black, but definitely darker. Then again, he has only had a small handful at a time. I'm sure if he ate more, his poo would get darker and darker.
  • No, not coffee grindish, but definitely hard to wipe off.  I'm not ever phased by diaper changes, but this one made me do a double take.

    Thanks, ladies!

  • Ugh, blueberry poop is the WORST!!  I love that he loves them however I'll love it even more when he's potty trained!

I would only worry if it was coffee ground looking.  Also, I guess I am the only one whos dc doesnt get black poo from blueberries.

  • ours are pretty dark (she LOVES blueberries) and the berries come out whole, and look like smooshed black beans.

Yup!  Blueberries are DS's fave food!  He eats them by the handfulls.  I have just given in to the fact that I am going to have some stained cloth dipes.

  • Yes, blueberry diapers are disgusting. DD loves her blueberries and they're so good for her, but this is definitely the drawback! I can always tell when DH or my mom has fed them to her when I'm not home.

What does it mean if it looks like coffee grounds?

  • Kind of, hers has the actual blueberry skins in there. Very gross.

  • Yes! DS loves blueberries and would eat a whole pint at one sitting if I let him. But after that first blueberry poop, we quickly learned to ration the blueberries. Even though he screams for more.
  • It can even stain the little bumbs that colour if they have them a few days in a row.
  • lol, I posted about this the other night, I'm a nurse (obsessed with poop) and I didn't know this) It's normal.

Coffee ground emesis or poop can mean internal bleeding. There would generally be other signs as well.
