Crib/Furniture Question

Did anyone buy a crib or furniture despite the rating in Baby Bargains?

I have never read Baby Bargains and don't plan on ever doing so. I just go by the ratings that people give items and if it looks like a quality piece of furniture/ item.

Thank you. I feel guilty buying something they rated poorly but then I think its just one opinion.

I never read baby bargains. I felt pretty confident in my ability to pick out quality furniture.

I bought a crib - Young America by Stanley Furniture before I read Baby Bargains.  I was a little worried with their review (it still got a B+) because at first I think I was a little obsessed with getting the best and cheapest out there.  I LOVE my furniture and wouldn't change a thing now.

I have a crib by Young America... was never bothered by their Baby Bargains review.  It's a great piece of furniture and we bought the same one for #2..

I bought the Bergamo Coffee Americana crib and combo unit even though, as a company Baby Bargains rated them as an "F".  They got the low grade b/c of some past recalls involving lead paint and defective slats.  After inspecting the set we wanted though, MH and I felt that it was more solid than some of the pricier or higher rated brands' sets.  We felt that, even a company that has suffered recalls on a few past products doesn't mean a particular set is going to be defective- especially if you can see it in person and assure that it is built solidly.

Baby Bargains has been incredibly helpful in my research and planning for baby gear in general. Yes, I avoid anything rated poorly as long as the reasoning makes sense to me - ex if something is related poorly to customer service issues I am more likely to buy it than if it is rated poorly due to safety, quality or value concerns. In addition though, I read a ton of reviews online and have found that even things they rate highly have a significant number of negative reviews online. Consumer reports is always helpful too!  Use common sense and your good judgment and you will be fine!

From what I understand, Baby Bargains also goes by recommendations from us, the users of these things, in addition to recalls.  Recalls on baby products scare me as there was just a recall on a crib one a month or so ago because of an infant getting stuck in the slats and not making it.  If something got a D or F in it, I wasn't even going to consider it.  My grandmother ended up buying a crib for us, and she bought us a pricey one, that had great reviews.  It's a Baby Italia one.  But I totally would have gone with one that was a bit lower rated if DH and I had to shell out the big bucks for it.
