Sewing Class.

I'm trying to convince my stepmom to quit her awful job at the BoE in Clayton County. She's a master sewer and can make just about anything with or without a pattern. She made my sister's wedding dress from just studying a Monique Lhuiller dress in person. She made all our clothes as kids (until we wanted "cool" clothes - ha ha). And she's a really good teacher.

Anyhoo, I wanted to take a straw poll to see how many of you would actually pay for a sewing class. I'm not trying to get you to sign up for anything, I just think there's a lot of interest in sewing out there and I think my stepmom could make a go of it.

I'm working all this out in my head and I figure she could do small classes or private lessons. Maybe $30-$50 for a class, depending on what you'd learn?

What do y'all think?

Re: Sewing Class.

  • I would definitely be interested.  I keep telling myself I'm going to sign up one day, but the interest is still there ;)

I think the class prices you mentioned are very reasonable.  Most I've seen are in a series (6 weeknights, etc.) for around $250+.

  • I'm actually looking at taking a course that it is only one session next week. But I know that I'll need more than that.
  • I have taken 3 sewing classes:

2 at Atlanta Sewing Center (one day each @ $35 each)--these were two different classes

    1 at Joann's @ $60 for two sessions

    Loved all of them.

  • Myra, I am trying to get my mom to venture more into doing sewing for a business.  she is so freaking talented!  Good luck to your stepmom - I'm interested to hear how it pans out if she decides to go for it.

  • I would LOVE to take a class. Just bought an embroidery/sewing machine and only know how to use the embroidery...I really need to learn how to sew. :)
  • I have been thinking about taking a class at Joann's too. But I would love to take a class from your step mom if I'm in town. Those prices sound reasonable. Hopefully, she can just do one session for the basics. I don't even have a sewing machine yet but would love to learn how to make some cute dresses.

  • I really want to take a sewing class and I would definitely be interested in private lessons too.  If someone could come and show me how to really use my sewing machine, I would adore it.
  • I would LOVE to take a sewing class. ? ?My MIL has offered to buy me a sewing machine, but I don't want her to make an investment on something I don't even know how to use yet!?

    ?

  • I would be interested in learning to use my sewing machine. I can make small things by hand and my mom bought me a machine a few years ago but I've never figured out how to use it. I've been wondering where I could find sewing classes.
