getting rid of swaddle

so how exactly do you do this?  DD has rolled from front-to-back but not back-to-front, so i'm not super concerned, but all this moving about in her crib while she's sleeping now makes me think it's time to get rid of the swaddle.  she only sleeps in her crib at night -- otherwise she's in her sling on me during the day -- and i feel like she's not just going to fall/stay asleep on her own if we lay her down in the crib without a swaddle.  any advice -- do you just try over and over until she gets it?  she's only 10.5 weeks, so i'm not 100% convinced it's time yet... thanks again.

Re: getting rid of swaddle

  • We just started last week because DS was loosening his miracle blanket. DS was also becoming able to put himself to sleep so that was helpful. We swaddled w/ one arm out for two nights and then used a sleep sack after that, it went well for us. I don't think you should worry about unswaddling just yet, use it while you still can!

  • thanks, i do feel like it's a little early.  she does fall asleep on her own, but only when swaddled (or in the sling).  maybe i'll start with the sleep sack though, since the miracle blanket doesn't seem to be working anymore...
  • DD is in between sizes of her Swaddle Me blanket.. the small is too small and the large it's easy for her to bust out of it because it's too big on her.

So, we started just swaddling her torso area and leaving her hands free. We've been doing it a week and it's worked well so far. (Only bad side effect is that instead of sleeping from 10 to 6 straight she is now getting up for one feeding around 4 or 5. Not sure if that has to do with the swaddling or not.)

Next week I'm thinking about starting her in a sleep sack.
