I go in to check he is ok, he had a habbit of throwing up in his crib for a while. I cuddle him, make sure his diaper hasn't leaked and put him back down. He usually goes back to sleep pretty quickly after that.
He's finally at a point where if he's waking in the middle of the night it's for a legitimate reason....usually he's soaked through his diaper & jammies. And he has a very distinct "someone is trying to stab me in the eye" scream when that happens.
If it's just a regular cry I wait it out for a few minutes. If he doesn't calm down after 10 minutes I'll go up to check on him.

I ignore for awhile and he usually goes back to sleep, I can sort of tell if there is something really wrong by his cry. He usually goes back to sleep within 10 mins, if he doesn't then I will check. I don't like to check because he has a hard time going back to bed once he sees me and I will usually be up all night.

There is sometimes that he cries for only 30 seconds and goes right back to sleep but it if it's more than that the longer I wait the more dramatic his cry gets and the longer it takes him to get back to sleep. Therefore if it lasts longer than a minute I go in and Nurse him or I rock him back to sleep.
I let her cry for about 10-15 minutes to see if she's going to settle down on her own & go back to sleep. I also keep an eye on her on our video monitor so I can tell if she is standing up the entire time or laying down or a combo. If she's standing up then I've figured out she needs something. When I do go in I never let her out of the room. I usually bring a bottle just incase I can't settle her down any other way. I also only turn on her night light & not the regular light.

Depends. If she is hysterical, I will go in, fix the problem and put her back down. She goes back down without a fuss. If she is just crying a bit or whining I will ignore her. She will stop after a minute and is usually doing it in her sleep.

I'm with the about 10 min plan also. video monitors do help- if they are standing and screaming, it is different than crying/whining while still lying down.
the exception to 10 or 15 min rule would be if the screaming is super hysterical or just sounds different than usual or if we've already tried to soothe a couple times....
Depends on the depth of the cry...and also the length of crying. She's always been good at soothing herself, so if it continues for a few minutes while she's crying her smaller cry, i'll go check to see if she's wet, etc. Most of the time all she needs is a bottle if she's crying hard...so i just hand her a bottle and help her to lay/snuggle down.
If DS is crying in the middle of the night, it's for a definite reason. I always go in.
I'm super lucky in this fact though, I could count on one hand the number of times DS has started crying at night in the past 6-8 months. And it's been because he's pooped, or has an ear infection.
If it's just a little fussing, we wait it out, and she usually falls back asleep. If the fussing comes back soon after, or just continues intermittently, we'll go in for a moment. Once in a while, she wakes up crying pretty hard apropos of nothing, so we go in pretty quickly, give her hugs and put her back down with her blankets and stuffed animals.
We co-slept the first year (so take this for what it's worth ) We go in and pat DD's back. If she is hysterical and won't go back to sleep we bring her into bed with us. But that is not for everyone.
I can tell from his cry if he's laying down or standing up. Laying down I wait out and see what happens. Standing up I go either nurse him or bring him to our bed.
We wait it out for a few mins and normally we all fall back asleep with no problem, if it goes on too long, I'll usually go in and give him some water.
We really try to let him go though because he gets more upset when we are trying to leave after seeing him in the middle of the night.
I give him a minute to see if he stops crying. If not, I will check on him. He's been sleeping through the night for long enough that it's likely something is wrong if he's crying. If he's just talking to himself, however, I stay away.
Unless he is screaming I leave him in there. He usually wakes up for about 10 minutes around 3am whimpers then goes back down. Some days he has woken up in blood curdling screams where I will bring him in bed so I can get some sleep.
It depends - we have a video monitor so we can see what she is doing. DD doesn't go back down if we try to rock her - she can be dead asleep in our arms but if we put her in her crib its bam wake up and scream. So we usually let her cry/fuss for a little bit before we go in (unless its a scared cry or something else serious) because it is worse if we go back in usually.
I still go in. He has food allergies and mastocytosis, so IDK if he just doesnt feel good from that stuff or if hes just being a little whiney brat, so I still go in and pick him up and rock him for a few minutes...im used to it by now. Since abour 16m he has started sleeping all night about half+ the time, so we are getting better..if he wakes its usually only once.

We're pretty fresh out of the Sleep Lady Shuffle and DS hardly ever wakes in the middle of the night, but if he does, we go in, lay him back down, tell him it's still night-night time and leave. If he doesn't go right back to sleep we'll repeat and then stand in the doorway to soothe until he falls back asleep.

This exactly, but I'm currently working on night weaning him so these days I mostly go in and cuddle him then put him back in the crib and sit with him and sing or pat his back for a minute until he calms down.

usually i ignore .... but if she's crying for longer than 5-10 mins, i'll go in and make sure that she's alright. 95% of the time, she cries for only a few minutes (the amt of time it takes her to find her binkie and pop it back in) then she quiets down again.

He's been STTN for a long time now, so if he cries in the middle of the night, it's usually because there's something wrong.
That said, he does "dream cry". I'll hear him crying, run in there, and find him fast asleep.
