So we met with the OB today for the first time since our big u/s last week when the peri told us that the baby's nuchal fold was "slightly" thicker than normal, and we might be at increased risk of DS. Still "low risk," but higher than we previously thought. (we were told 1 in 10,000 based on NT scan and he told us now maybe 1 in 1000)
Well, my OB basically put our minds at ease because she said that there's a reason they do those tests in the 1st tri, because any later and they aren't as accurate. Baby carebear showed no other markers and she even marked the big u/s as "normal" in my chart. She said with our perfect 1st tri results, and our ages, she really thinks it's just an anatomical variation and we shouldn't be worried at all.
She also said at my last visit they drew blood to check for spina bifida (which came back totally fine), but the lab actually mistakingly re-ran the b/w they do for the 1st tri screening for DS and again that came back perfect.
We never would have done an amnio, nor would anything change the outcome of this pregnancy (that we'd love our child no matter what), but it's nice not to feel like I really have to worry about it.
