I had complications after my emergency c-section and baby was in NICU. I wasn't able to see my baby for a day and a half after he was born. I had developed illieas (sp?) and had an NG tube for 5 days. I had wanted to nurse within an hour of giving birth, but that was not an option.
We were in the hospital for 6 days, and I finally started to pump on day 6 when I got home. I am pumping 3-4 times a day, between 1-2 oz at a time. I want to increase my supply, is this an average amount to pump at this point (baby is 2 weeks)?
Re: Anyone pump and formula feed?
You need to pump every 2-3 hours until about the 3 month mark. It is insanely grueling but the only way to have a nice full supply built up that will carry you until you are ready to stop. You aren't putting enough demand on your milk supply right now if you are only pumping 3-4 times a day.
Because you didn't put any demand on your boobs for 6 days I would suggest you start power pumping ASAP. Pump 20, take a break for 10, on 10, off 10, on 10 etc for an hour. It simulates a growth spurt sort of and can help up your supply as well.
