I just made Keanan's apt. to go to a pediatric dentist. I looks like he has something on his bottom four teeth. He doesn't get a lot of juice, in fact he get the Gerber Splashers (flavored water) and I dilute those. he doesn't get a sippy right at bed, it is about 30 min before, and we brush his teeth everyday (he even let me floss a little bit,) so I have no idea what this is, but it is not going away.
What should I expect at his first dentist appt?
Re: Heading to the pediatric dentist next week
Basically they will just look at his teeth. They don't do much at the first few appointments. They will look at what is on his teeth, it's probably calcium deposits. They will check to see how his teeth are growing in and that may be it. They may brush his teeth while he's there, they may not.
My boys started going to the Dentist at 1 year old. (It is recommended that you take them within 6 months of their first teeth.) They go every 6 months. At two is when they started getting x-rays of their teeth. We go to a pretty great Pediactric Dentist. My 4 1/2 yo has both a cross bite and an over bite which she monitors closely - he will need braces as soon as his adult teeth grow in. My 2 1/2 yo has issues with teeth not growing in properly and the roof of his mouth due to his thumb sucking. The dentist is monitoring this very very closely as it affects the way he talks and chews as well. Did you know that they will put braces on a 4 year old in order to make room and fix their mouth for their adult teeth? This may be what we're facing with my 2 1/2 yo.
DH says that at his office they normally do a lap exam with the child. What they do is have you put your child on your lap facing you and then you will lay their head in the doctor's lap and they'll do a quick examination of the teeth and the surrounding gums, roof of the mouth, cheeks, under the tongue, etc.
This appt. is also for the parents to ask any ?'s or concerns that they have and also to educate the parents on diet as well. DH normally shows the parents how to use the toothbrush with training toothpaste to brush off any food particles that are on the teeth. Also, depending upon where the child's water source comes from (ie, tap water, bottled water, etc.), he may prescribe fluoride drops which helps prevent cavities from forming on the teeth.
DH was asking what is that something that you see?
ETA: DH totally just typed that and referred to himself as DH. Do I nest too much?
Thanks for the info!
It is something white on the base of his bottom 4 teeth. I thought plaque or something, it showed up so quickly and won't go away.
