Seeking advice on nursery progress (LIP)

Hi all,

I'm stuck on the nursery.  I've posted pics of where it stands now in my blog (link in my siggy) but I'm not satisfied with it.  It's needs more, I'm just stuck on what.  I'm planning to add a funky wall clock, but I'm not sure what else.  Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks!

  • What about a wall decal on the wall across from the crib?  I've found some neat ones on Etsy.   They have both modern and more contemporary ones.

Or you could do a group of shelves on that same wall.

  • DS's nursery is also Dwell circles as well... we hung bright colored chinese lanterns (no light inside) from small ceiling hooks to take up one corner of his room and to fill up another corner we have a tree decal. I wouldnt touch the chair...the color rocks!

May I also ask where you got the rug?

Thanks for the tips, I love the lantern idea.  The rug is from Ikea, though I'll warn you that it actually doesn't match the bedding very well, the colors in the rug are much brighter than in the bedding.  It ended up not mattering much for us because you can't really see much of the bedding through the crib slats.

  • Love the rug and the red curtains...I would leave the chair green!  I like the idea of a wall decal too.  It would be something that gives the walls statement!

  • I think the wall above your dresser seems to need something.  I'm thinking it would be cool to mimic the circles on the floor.  I would go buy different sizes of wooden embroidery hoops at the fabric store, paint them some different colors and then arrange them on the wall in a random pattern.  You could insert different fabric patterns to match your room alternated with some black and white photos of the baby when it is here.  If you do something like this, just make sure to scale it right on the wall, do it high enough to give the room some height and wide enough to not look too dinky on the wall.  Hope this makes sense.

You are close, just need a few finishing touches!  I also want to tell you that you have your artwork hung a bit too high.  Above the chair especially.  Artwork needs to be more at eye level.  I usually hang up the art so the center is at my eye level and then put it up a little but more so that it hangs eye level for someone a but taller than me.

  • I knew it looked familiar! We have an Ikea 10 minutes from home so im in there way too much :) ... We have a baby blue thick rug in there now but I have always thought that it was too small so I might look at this. Im not worried about it being matchy... His room is full of bright colors

  • It looks great...just a few things would bring it all together and I think you will be happy!

    1.  As pp mentioned, your artwork above the rocker is too high.  Eye level is more appropriate and it will make a huge difference.  Also, the cross is very high unless you plan to put something under it (btw, I have a cross above DD's crib as well PIBlog in sig).

    2.  I would also raise the curtains up to the ceiling.  It will help the space look bigger and will solve the pooling problem you have with the drapes.  It will look cleaner and fit with your modern feel.

    3.  If it were my room, I would move the artwork from above the rocker and put it on the wall above the dresser.  In the corner above the rocker, I would buy or make a mobile to hang from the ceiling.  Something like...

    4.  Finally, keep the chair green!  It looks great with the other colors in the room and I think it would be too much if you changed it to red.

  • The cross and photo would look better if they were dropped down on the wall as pp mentioned.  I would try to add one more statement piece as opposed to lots of little things.  Great nursery!
  • I see you are a science person and your room reminded me of science. :)  all the cirlces look like atoms to me.  Maybe a shelf with the wooden model atoms on it as a statement piece?  Also, a changing pad on the changing table with a colorful cover...like red, would add color to that wall.

I agree with lowering the art/cross and raising the drapes.

  • i don't have any advice but i really like the rug in the room!

I love the idea of an atom!  Let's see if DH would go for it.... too bad we gave away our molecule kit from organic chemistry....
