Severe Body Aches

Hello All:

I am about 3 months pregnant, and this weekend I don't know if this is common for most women with pregnancy, but, this is my first baby, and starting on Thursday night, I had severe body aches until Saturday late morning. It felt like the baby was taking away marrow from my bones. I ached from my toes to my neck. Also, I didn't have an appetite. Has anyone else experienced this? My NP said that it was possible that I had a virus, and to just rest and drink white sodas, i.e., Sprite, Ginger Ale, Tonic, etc. Another doctor mentioned to me that if I was underweight within the past 5 years, it could be the baby actually taking all the nutrients and vitamins from my bones, even though I am on pre-natal pills, and not underweight currently. As a matter of fact, I can't fit into most of my clothes.

Re: Severe Body Aches

  • There are normal aches & pains that come with pregnancy, especially as things begin to loosen up and move around but I've never heard of this. It sounds like you may have caught a flu virus (full body ache is a usual symtom) or something along those lines.

I highly doubt your aches are due to your baby leeching out nutrients unless you've been severely starving yourself (eating disorder, for example) for the last several years. Continue to eat a well balanced diet & take your prenatals, you'll be fine.

  • Although I have felt some crazy pains, I havent felt anything like you are describing. I also do not believe that the pain you are feeling is caused by the baby leeching your nutrients...but I am no doctor. I hope you are feeling better soon!

  • Sometime during the second trimester, I totally felt like this. For 48 hours I was achey. At the worst, I was running a low grade fever and my aches got so bad that I was delirious and would wake up every 20-30 minutes from the pain. OB kept track of me, but my fever never got high enough to warrant me going in to the hospital. They think it was probably a virus. It did go away though.
  • I have this problem when my Thyroid medication needs to be increased. Do you  feel like you can't move or your body is just too heavy to move and then it's tight and hurts when you do move?
  • I had similar aches when pg too. It turned out to be due to anemia. I had to take iron supplements. Even then, it didnt always help. And it took a few weeks of taking the supplements to feel a bit better. You can have a simple blood test done to check if you are anemic.
  • Thanks Ladies! I feel much better now. I was anemic in the past, but now that I am preggers, they say that its gone away. I believe it was a virus, but man, that really hurt. I'm in my 2nd trimester now, and i feel like I am getting my grove back... lol
