Convertible Car Seats (Evenflo)

I'm sure the convertible car seat question has been asked several times before but I will be in the market for one pretty soon since my LO has only 2 inches left in the infant seat before he outgrows it.

I need something that's really affordable since we will have to buy two (one for each car)  but also obviously safe and comfy for my DS. I have a small car (Toyota Echo) and my husband drives a truck (Honda Ridgeline) so I would like something that fits both easily.

I believe the one's from Evenflo got good ratings on cost & performance but I want to hear from actual users of this brand. Which one from their line did you go with and why? What was the price range ($-$$$) and was it simple to install & use, does your LO like it?

Re: Convertible Car Seats (Evenflo)

  • we have the evenflo triumph advance and so far so good. DS likes it.. it is easy to install & the price was right for us.

We have a Murano and it fits in it well.

  • I love the evenflo triumph advance. we call it his thrown. it fits nicely in my sedan (honda accord). he's so comfortable in it as well. absolutely love it!
  • We have the Evenflo Tribute ($60 - we had to buy 3!)  My DH said it was really easy to install and DD doesn't mind it - meaning that she's comfortable to fall asleep in it, but never was a fan of being trapped!

  • We have an Evenflo Triumph and it cost about $140. It is really nice and we like it. In our sitter's car, we have an Evenflo Titan. It was only $99. It is not as cushy as the Triumph, but still a nice seat for the money.

  • we have the evenflo triumph advance LX in our focus (driver side) and in our civic (passenger side) and love it.  DS is comfy and it is very easy to use -- you never have to rethread the shoulder straps and there is a knob on the side of the seat to tighten and loosen them.  i installed them (one using LATCH, one using the seatbelt -- not difficult at all).  they were about $140 each at walmart.
  • My parents bought an Evenflo Triumph for DS to use at their lake house and it's my favorite of all the seats we have (Britax Boulevard at home, Recaro Como at my parents' other house). ?It was $140. ?DS seems happiest in that seat and it's really easy to adjust the straps.?

  • I have a Ford Escape and the seat in my car is the Evenflo Triumph Advanced ($160 @ BRU). MH has a Ford Explorer and in his car is the Evenflo Titan ($100 @ BRU)- we do not use his car that often so we spent more on my car seat. Plus I was able to use a coupon on my seat which brough it down in $130. Both are easy to install and to use IMO.

  • Thank you so much ladies! I will take these reviews and discuss it with the hubby.

One other question. Do the convertible car seats come with a 5 point harness or is that a feature of infant car seats only?

  • Oh wait I have another question.

Can convertible car seats go in the middle of the car or only on the sides?

  • They can be installed in the middle or sides, just like infant seat and they are 5 point harnesses. I think that is standard now.

  • We have both the Titan (for dh's car) and the Triumph (for my car).  They are both 5 point harnesses and they are each installed in our middle seats (we both drive Pontiac Grand Prixs)  If you want to use LATCH you have to make sure that you have anchors for the middle seat.  You can't borrow one from each passenger seat.  You would be surprised about what cars have middle anchors and which don't (ie my fil's saturn suv does not have middle LATCH anchors but my Grand Prix sedan does).
  • We have the evenflo triumph advance premier and love it ($180 before coupons). For DH's car, since we rarely use it and want something smaller for traveling on an airplane, we got the Cosco Scenera ($55 on overprice.com and had a coupon for free shipping - I liked that it was black/grey on their site - BRU only had black/orange). I'm taking it to CA on Friday and Germany next summer, so I wanted one that would fit easily in a plane seat and be easy to carry. The Evenflo Triumph would not work well for that.
