We're back to diapers after a week of panties. :(

DD was doing really well in panties, or so I thought.  She didn't have any accidents, but she was holding it all.day.long.  On the 4th, she refused to use the potty and even had a screaming fit about it.  So, I put her back in a diaper.  Yesterday, she had 5 BMs in diapers!  Then, I realized she hadn't pooped in the potty nearly that whole week.  Ugh.  I'm sure she wasn't feeling too great from holding it like that.  I don't know what else to do.  She *knows* how to go potty all by herself.  I don't have to do anything but wipe her...but now she's refusing completely.  Any advice?

I have no advice, but I feel your pain!  DD is finally telling me when she has to go albeit inconsistently, but she's in panties and happy:)    Maybe she's not quite ready?   How old is she?
  • Our older DD initially expressed interest in the potty before she was 2.  Shortly thereafter, she regressed & had no interest in it whatsoever.  Around 2 1/2- 2 3/4 yrs,  one day she decided that she wanted to use the potty & that was that.  When they are ready, it happens fairly quickly, in my experience with the 3 children I have successfully PT'd thus far.  Don't push it....she will let you know when she's ready.  Dropping a couple of hints here and there about big girls using the potty & good "potty treats" (candy in our house- we used Swedish fish & candy pumpkins!) also work wonders!

  • DD is very regular. She seriously goes #2 at the same time every day so I would put her on the toilet at that time, encourage her to go and if she wouldn't go I'd put a diaper on her and let her do her thing in the diaper. She's been "potty" trained for about a month now but sometimes she still refuses to go #2 on the potty, like today. I don't know if that answers your question and I know not all kids are as regular as DD. I would just keep encouraging her to go on the potty but if she refuses just let it go for awhile, maybe she's not 100% ready. I don't know if my answers the best though, we're still trying to master the whole potty thing ourselves.
  • Same here with Bella. It can get frustrating, huh?

  • I'm sorry.  DD was holding #2 also & the only time she would go is if she was on her little potty if I put her on ours with the ring she would not go.  Even now she prefers her little potty for going #2 but will go on ours if she has to.

  • I wouldn't feel bad about going back to pull ups/diapers at.all.   I wish I had with my daughter.  We had a good start the first week, then a bad week, then another good one.  I must have said, "I think we've turned a corner" five or six times.  At the time, I didn't think I should turn back because it might send her mixed messeges.  She really seemed to know what to do most of the time.  Looking back, I think it would have been a much smoother process if I just went back to diapers for a while and tried again later.  I think you're doing the right thing!
