Obviously, no risk of BPA or other chemicals we don't yet understand. Is that it? Please advise.
That's it. It's non-reactive, unlike plastic. There could still be nasties that have yet to be discovered in plastics. I'm not saying there are, but there could be.
Hmm, this may be a good reason. However, plastics are so integrated into our society, it seems that it might just be putting off the inevitable..
whether or not glass is better than plastic, there's lots of evidence that chemicals affect fetuses/infants way more than older children or adults, so it does make some sense to try and postpone as long as possible, even if its inevitable.

Do you have links to some of this evidence, by any chance?

almost all glass bottles now made come with a silicone sleeve that prevents them from breaking. or the ones that don't automatically come with one, you can buy them for. Glass is becoming more and more popular in stores. I don't bottle feed but I'd use glass if I did.
Everything is coming around full circle! Our moms used glass bottles and used cloth diapers; but they also drank martinis...maybe that will come back, too?!!
I didn't read replies...just posting why I plan to. In addition to the above, the last forever so we can reuse them for all our babies and they're more environmentally friendly. Just a personal choice, that's all.

google chemicals or toxins and infants and you'll find some articles, i don't have any bookmarked.
Personally I think that BPA is just the first of many things that they will find in plastic. We don't use plastic for ourselves anymore and wouldn't feel right using for baby when we don't use it for ourselves.
Also, plastic bottles can only be used for one baby. Glass can be re-used over and over again.
Glass tends to be cheaper
Aside from BPA plastic skeeves me out. When we did use plastic I was constantly tossing tupperware because it would come out of the dishwasher smelling like whatever was in it last. Gross!
I'm not worried about breakage with the nifty silicone sleeves

I just prefer glass over plastic. I try to avoid plastics as much as possible. Most plastics are made from petroleum. I'm sorry but I don't want my child drinking from something that is a derivative of petroleum. Glass lasts longer, they are durable, and my mom and grandmother used glass. It was good enough for me and it is good enough for my baby. I reject the premise that our new technology is always better. It is just a matter of time before another chemical is found that is dangerous.

what about sippy cups, etc? curious what everyone's thoughts are on when our babes get old enough to have their own cups, plates, etc? are there other non-plastic alternatives out there for that stage?

I haven't seen any glass sippy cups but they do make metal ones (think along the lines of a Sigg bottle). I might do something like this

I am totally on board with the BPA-free, but what about dropping the damn thing??
YES, actually my Mom has a terrible scar between her eye brows from a glass baby bottle broke and cut her. I guess her baby sister(they were 12 months apart) was holding her own bottle and sucking and my Mom who was not taking a bottle any more but thought she needed it pulled it from my Aunt and wacked herself right upside the head. 12 stitches later.... I am probably going to use use the BPA free non glass bottles.

Good question! I have often wondered about this. Thanks for asking.
Agreed. I am not a smooth operator. Especially not at 4am feedings.
