Babies: 0 - 3 Months

First thing to do when calling daycare.

...I really need to look into some daycares.  Am I behind or doing alright?

I have lots of questions for them, but thinking most of them would be better when we go visit the daycares.

What do you ask when you first call them?

Re: First thing to do when calling daycare.

  • Ask if they will have availability for a newborn in X month....if there is a hold fee....how much tjey charge.  Then set up a time to meet with them.
  • Loading the player...
  • Make sure they will have an opening for you baby in however many months. There is usually a registration or fee to hold their place. I found that most of my questions were answered when we saw the places. More questions came to mind then too!! GL to you!!!
  • I don't know if I would really consider you behind on this one; I think it all depends on your particular area.  Where I live they all thought I was crazy for calling so early (I started calling around 20 weeks) and most of them told me to call them back when DD was born, but in many places around the country daycares have waiting lists that are months or years long.  I'm glad that I started making that first round of phone calls because it helped me weed out the places that I didn't even want to visit.  I always asked if they had availability, what age they started taking kids, how much per week, and when I could come and visit.  From there I started setting up visits where I could ask my more detailed questions.
