Butting in...My father had to have a valve replaced many years ago and he recovered very quickly. He is over weight and smokes too. He actually did to much to fast and his breast bone didn't heal correctly. They had to go in and fix that. He should have listened to the doctors and taken things slow. Stubborn old men! His heart is very healthy now. He goes in once a year for check ups and all is good.
I'm not sure how long it took him, but it truly didn't seem like an awfully long time or anything. Although, my dad is pretty stubborn, doesn't like "down-time" too much and likes to get back to his normal routine so I am sure he probably got back to things quicker than he should have, ha! As far as the health of his heart now, I don't know anything specific, but I think it has remained a lot healthier since the surgery. He is on a ton of meds for a variety of things and is also diabetic as well, so I don't really know too many specifics. On top of that, my parents tend to not really openly discuss their personal health concerns unless something significant happens or is brought up by their physician.
Thank you both. My step dad is also diabetic and he thinks b/c of that he won't heal like he should. I am sure everything will be fine though. They just need to be positive!
