Indiana Babies

Hi sweetie,

I'm on 40mg of Lovenox daily - and really, that is a small dose.  In the beginning, I had a hard time injecting myself (and I'm a nurse, ha!)!!!!  I would try to do a quick needle insertion and it hurt SO bad....which I couldn't understand b/c quick is suppose to decrease the pain.  So, Dh would play ACDC for me to get pumped up (ha!) and for a few weeks I just sucked it up and did it that way.

Then I figured out what worked best for me was to insert the needle slowly and once the needle is in, then I take between 2-3min to inject the lovenox b/c it does burn if you go fast.  I never used ice to "numb" the area prior to inject, but some gals do that....and every now and then, even though I don't change the way I do it, it still hurts.

I get a bruise maybe 1/4 of the time, but it's on my tummy so no one sees it - which I'm fine with.  Twice, I've gotten a hard "bump" under the skin from where I did my shot, and it goes away in a few days, but is sore in the meantime. I do my shots right when I get into bed, so Dh is there to help me if I need (or give motivation!).

All in all, it's not bad for me anymore.  After the first few months, I got totally used to it and it's just part of my evening routine now :)
