Got PCOS?

I  was diagnosed recently with PCOS. I have been TTC since March and with no cycles and all neg PT's that how we found out with the help of my doctor. I just finished my last dose of Prometrium so I would start having cycles and have started on glucophage. I was wondering how long after taking the prometrium it takes to have a period? I also have started a low GI diet and startted walking to help lose weight and maybe help with the effects of PCOS on my body.Anyone find that this helps?  I have noticed some changes since stopping my BC. Just wanting to get all the info I can. I know it is not impossible to conceive with PCOS, but unfortunatley I know it can be very difficult with my friend recently having a failed transfer. Also, pray for her she had a transfer yesterday and we hope it works.

Re: Got PCOS?

  • When I took provera to start my period, i usually got it 7-10 days after the last pill. It took me multiple cycles with Follistim and Clomid to get pregnant but it finally worked so dont give up although it gets frustrating.

I have PCOS.  I tried dieting and did lose some weight, but I still didn't ovulate on my own.  I was on Clomid and Metformin when I got pregnant with DD.
  • I don't have PCOS and I don't really know anything about it, but I just want to wish you the best of luck.
  • I got pregnant while taking metformin and clomid.

FYI: www.soulcysters.org (or .com... I can never remember!) is a fantastic site for PCOS information

  • I have PCOS but no insulin issues.  The doctor didn't want to put me on metformin because of that, so I started taking Vitex to regulate my cycles.  That in combination with B complex vitamins and my prenatals every day has helped to significantly reduce the length of my cycles and increase the length of my LP.

GL.  Concieving with PCOS is not impossible.  I suggest educating yourself about your body (read TCOYF and the tutorials at fertilityfriend.com) and take the proper steps to care for yourself.  Sounds like you're taking care of the weight issue with the GI diet..but there is nothing like knowing exactly what is going on with your body.

  • I have PCOS and a blocked tube. ?When I was diagnosed, they started me on Metformin almost immediately. ?As part of the IF work up they also did a HSG. ?Some combination of those, plus watching what I ate and exercising I ovulated and got pregnant.?

  • You should get AF within a max of 10 days after finishing the prometrium.  The Met is probably your biggest ally in this process.  It many not make you ovulate alone, but by far and large most PCOS patients are able to conceive with the PCOS+Met combo.  I've been told it takes a minimum of 3 months for the Met to take effect so I would recommend not seeing an RE until then.  Save yourself some money.  Also, I've been told that the minimum therapeutic dosage is 1500 mg so I would recommend that.
