Babies on the Brain

Dear Ripley:

While I love you, my sweet little puppy, it would be most appreciated if you would learn to poo outside in the grass. PLEASE for the love of God and all that is Holy, don't wait til you come inside and use the piddle pad. It's ok, I promise. Even though I have half a case of piddle pads, I won't be a bit mad if I no longer have a need for them.

Oh, and can you please sleep past 5am for once? Please?

Luv,

Lib

  • That doesn't sound pleasant. Hope it gets better soon.

  • I'm not going to lie...My dh bought me an 8-week old puppy last year and the first two months we had her, I had a sobfest at least once a week. When I would come home from work, my kitchen was covered in piles and puddles of poo and pee. She ate the puppy pad, so we had to remove them. And then after going outside for 20 minutes, she'd come in and squat right on the carpet.

Then like magic, she just stopped pooing and peeing on my floor and wanted to go outside to do the deed. It was a wonderful day.

  • Puppy training is so much fun isn't it? Roxy (my mom's dog, which I trained) was a holy terror for the first few months we had her. Try taking away the piddle pad and only putting it down during certain times to encourage him to get on a schedule, then put it down outside when you put it down. Then just take him outside. I dont know if that's what you're already trying but that's what worked for Roxy.?

  • The pooing outside will come in time however the sleeping past 5am not so sure.  We have a 7 month old puppy and she gets up around 5-5:30 everymorning...yes even weekends:(  Good luck though.

We put a dark blanket over our dog's kennel at night (kind of like what you do for a bird) and that seems to work for us.  You may want to try that.  Our boy sleeps until we wake him up no matter the time.  It's great!
