In toddler crib climbing news: What do I do now? Immediately?

I put J to bed. He climbed out.  And in, and out, and downstairs, then I put him back in, he climbed out, played around, banged on the door, and now he's watching Curious George, the movie.

He says he wants to "walk around the house".

So, what do I do?  Keep taking him back to his room and his crib?  Take the front off NOW and put on the toddler rail?  Just wait until he falls asleep on the couch and put him in his crib?

I'm freaking exhausted and need to deal with adult issues.  So how do I deal with a toddler who will not stay in his crib?

  • I would take the mattress out, put it on the floor and put a gate up at the door.

  • You have enough going on tonight.  If you think he'll sleep through the night without waking up and climbing out, I'd let him fall asleep on the couch and then put him in his crib.  Tomorrow you can put the toddler rail on and start from scratch.

That is so cute that he wants to walk around the house.  imagine how cool it is for him!

I would put on the toddler rail and make him stay in his room.  but be prepared for a long night.  Christopher is 3 and we ease ourselves out.  He knows what 5 minutes is so we tell him we'll be back in 5.  Then 10.. then 15.  He doesn't cry (and if he does, we go back in). Maybe something like that would work.

  • This might not work for tonight, but we have a gate in DD's door so she can't get out of the room.  She might get out of bed and stand at the gate yelling for a couple minutes, but then she goes and gets back in bed and falls asleep.
  • Take his matress out of his crib and make a "big boy bed" on the floor.  Do you have a gate that you can put on his door to keep him in his room?  Or, let him sleep on the couch.  DD has done this a few times.  Sometimes the fight isn't worth it..
