Preemies

Donating preemie items?

This might sound a little weird, but I have a few bottles of similac neo-sure ready to feed formula that the NICU gave us when we left the hospital as well as an almost-full package of preemie size huggies diapers. We opened the package, but only used 1 and then bought more Pampers because we didn't like the huggies.

The formula I guess I could hang on to in case we ever need it (I am exclusively pumping) - but is the Neosure only for preemies/small babies needing extra nourishment? Do you know of anywhere I can donate the diapers to even with them being an open package?

Having a premature baby was one of the hardest experiences of my life, even though he was only 5 weeks early, the stress and anxiety that I felt that long week he was in the NICU is something I never want to experience again - and feel bad throwing these supplies away. Thanks!

Re: Donating preemie items?

  • I donated my left overs to womens shelters in my area. They take anything. I work in mental health/substance abuse programs and we have womens programs that always need baby items. I would look to see if you have anything like that in your neighborhood =)
  • Our local food bank accepts diapers in opened packages...they take them to the County's emergency services center. I had extra Neosure that I sold on Craig's List for 1/4 of its cost (I let people offer what they wanted to pay for it). The woman who bought it was bf but had to supplement with Neosure for extra calories. You could offer it for free on Craig's List and I'll bet you'll have a taker!

  • I would take the Neosure if you don't have anything to do with it. ?I'd pay for shipping. ?Let me know. ?One of our twins is on it and will be for awhile still. ?If not then donating it to a woman's shelter sounds like a great idea to me.
