Roasting a chicken question

Those organic whole roasters at Costco...do they still have the organs inside that I have to remove or are they already gone?  I've not purchased them yet because I don't think I could reach in and pull them outIck!  Surprisingly, the meat guy there didn't know.....or wasn't saying.

Yeah, they do.  But they're in like a paperish bag, so you don't have to actually touch them.  (But does this mean you're not wanting to touch raw meat at all or reach inside the cavity for any reason?  Because if so, then why would you roast a whole chicken?  It's best when you can rub salt and pepper all over the bird, including the inside.)

BTW, I used to buy those, but I think they don't taste as good as the organic chickens at Trader Joe's--I've since stopped buying them.  The texture is odd, I think.

  • I had to read this, because the first time I got brave enough to roast a whole chicken, I didn't know anything about the stuff inside.  Just prepped it with butter, garlic, and seasonings and popped it in the oven!  Only when it was nearly finished did DH say, "Did you take the giblets and stuff out?"  And I was like, "Hm?  What?"  Lucky for me, that chicken didn't have anything in it.  And it turned out GREAT!  I was amazed at how easy it was, and how delicious it turned out.  It wasn't a Costco one, so I don't know about those.  I think when the neck and giblets are included, they are usually packaged in some kind of netting or bag, so hopefully you can locate it easily.  I've heard some people choose to wear rubber gloves when preparing a whole chicken.  I didn't, but I was a little grossed out shoving the butter and herb mixture under the skin.  Good luck!  I bet it will be very tasty.
