BUT - I've been to a recent 1-yr old boy's birthday.  The big hit present of the night was a little 4-wheeler.  It wasn't the electric kind you drive, just the kind you sit on and push with your feet.  He didn't actually sit on it - still too little, but he pushed that thing all over the park!  I think little kids get a kick out of pushing things, and there are a ton of cute toys that do this.  That's my suggestion.

anything Little People. Thats the age for all of those little sets!

specifically, the little people vehicles (school bus, airplane, tractor) are hits because kids have mastered crawling and can push them around. 

Also, the zoo is a good fit. Kids can begin learning the names and sounds of animals before too long.
