My DH wants a very traditional Irish name, including traditional spelling. I like Ciara a lot (and its growing on him he says) but I really can't come up with a middle name I like to go with it. Our last name has three syllables and starts with a K so I'm thinking something much softer for a middle name. Ideas anyone?
Re: Middle name for Ciara (Keer-a)
Is Ciara the traditional spelling for Keera? I love the name, but I would have assumed it was pronounced See-ahr-uh or Kee-ahr-uh. Some thoughts on mn:
Ciara Leigh
Ciara Wren
Ciara Elise
Ciara Sophia
Unfortunately, a lot of Irish names don't sound anything like how they're spelled lol. Its okay...I thought about that too, but even I with a fairly typical name have to correct people who mispronounce it.
Yes, Ciara is the traditional Irish spelling. Its the famale version of Ciaran. I really like Leigh as a mn. I will have to run that one by DH. Thanks!
I love that you are using the traditional spelling and pronunciation for this beautiful Irish name.
How about:
Ciara Aisling
Ciara Siobhan
Ciara Maeve
That spelling will be pronounced See-aira by ALL of your daughter's teachers and she will spend her whole life saying no, it's keer-a.

hmmm
Rose
Evelyn
Lilly
Grace
Anne
And every time it happens it is an opportunity to educate America on the correct way to pronounce the name.
Ciara Ashlin (Irish for dream)
you can't get more Irish than that!
That is really pretty!
This is very pretty too.
I agree! That is really cute...
Sweet response!
ITA.
Even though my daughter is named Keira I'm no help...her middle name is Maryellen...after my mom who passed away.
Keira Mary is nice
Did you want the MN to be Irish too? Megan, Erin, Sheridan
Or just a softer mn? Rosalie, Leighton, Juliette
I agree with pp about the spelling. I would probably go with Keira, Keera, or Ceara. Here are some Irish mn ideas (my favorites are Riley and Ryan):
Aileen
Brianna / Briana
Caitlin / Kaitlyn / Kaitlin
Casey
Cassidy
Kathleen
Maureen
Nola
Quinn
Riley
Ryan

Yeah, maybe, but teachers are smart people. They'll probably only have to be corrected once. If it's a traditional spelling, it would seem silly to change it just to suit others. I mean, people are always so offended by "creative" spellings on this board, so surely no one would suggest you stray from the traditional spelling?
Ciara Siobhan also popped into my head. That will REALLY throw people off with the pronunciation! But people figure it out, eventually.
I love Irish names! Some of my favorites that haven't been mentioned yet:
Ciara Bevin
Ciara Branna (Braw-na)
Ciara Brigid/Bridget
Ciara Davina
Ciara Grainne (Graw-nya)
Ciara Grian (Gree-un; Irish for sun)
Ciara Neve
Ciara Roisin (Ro-sheen)
He was not born in Ireland, but is really into his heritage and geneology.
