DH's family is annoying me today

My inlaws usually have a big party at the end of the June. it coincides with the fireworks that the area they live in has and leads up to the 4th of July holiday. It's a big party and a lot of work.

This year, my MIL will be out of town on business when the party would take place. She told FIL that it was up to him if he would have it and then I would hostess it and yada, yada yada. I told her that if FIL wanted it we would help. She just wants her family to be together - which they don't do anymore since the gpa died.

FIL doesn't want to do it, for multiple reasons. We (DH and I) are totally okay with that. We are in the process of planning a big 50th surprise birthday party for MIL a couple of weeks after the fireworks party would be. His thinking is that he doesn't want to pay for 2 parties and I agree.

Anyways, DH's cousins will not let it go about the fireworks party. They keep emailing MIL, DH and myself about having the party. I don't want to say anything about the birthday party until they get the invite because we are still trying to lock down a place.  They are just bugging me.

If they want it why don't they host it?  Why are they looking for you to do it?

I should have stated that they at the party you can literally watch the fireworks from my inlaws backyard. They are the only ones who live in the area.
