Hey, forgive me for not knowing details about you, I see you post all the time but we haven't chatted much. I was just wondering why you get mammograms done. Do you have a history, or family history? I started with a baseline mammogram at 30 and get them done yearly because my mom is a survivor (10 years plus now!). I don't get to share the discomfort stories with many people since none of my friends IRL need to get them. Anyway, best of luck!
Cheers to the survivors.............my mom is also a Breast Cancer survivor (10 years plus too) and my maternal aunt passed away 7 years ago from a very agressive form of breast cancer. I started mammograms when I was 25 and have them annually. I know what you speak about not really having anyone to share your feelings with. My friends/family are very supportive but it isn't the same as someone who has to go through it!
We can be BCSB (Breast Cancer Support Buddies)!
A BCSB sounds great! I'm sorry about your aunt. My mother's aunt is also a survivor. I remember when my mom had her lumpectomy, basically the doctor sat me down and had the whole talk with me about being vigilant in self-exams, etc. It seemed so surreal then (I was 22 at the time). Now that I am getting older, it creeps into my mind more often. I really enjoy doing the Race for the Cure every year, and a couple years ago we did the Breast Cancer 3 Day, which I would do again if it wasn't for the really high fundraising requirement. You have to raise $2200 just to participate.
You are so in my prayers LOVE! Crossing my fingers for you.
Check out siggy! My mom was diagnosed on Mother's Day of all days. The doc also sat me down and gave me "the talk" too. I go for a check up with my oncologist every 6 months and mammo. every year. We also had the genetic testing done for BRAC1 and 2 genes. My mom did not have the genes and b/c my aunt was on chemo at the time she couldn't be tested.
Kudos to you for raising all that money. We did the breast cancer donation for our wedding gifts to the guests in honor of my aunt and in order for us to kiss, people had to come up to the table and make a donation which we gave to Canadian Breast Cancer Society.....we raised just over $200.00. Every little bit helps! Keep up the great work!
Beautiful pic, almost_misses. Was that from your wedding day or just a pic you found?
You are in my thoughts, I hope it works out for you!!
