Freaking out a bit: Anyone's baby have 2 different size pupils?

We noticed last night that Ben's pupils are 2 different sizes.  It's actually pretty dramatic--can't believe I never noticed it before (we looked back at old pics and he's had it for a while if not forever).  Like an idiot, I Googled, and now I am totally freaked out waiting for the doctor to call me back.  We have his 2 month well visit on Friday, so I'm guessing she'll just look at it then, but I'm scared :(  From my Googling (I know, I know, never a good idea) it seems likely that it is totally benign, but if it isn't it seems like the causes are pretty horrible things. Anyone have a similar experience?

  • I would think at this age it is likely normal but see the doctor.  IMHO, go to a pediatric opthamologist b/c they just know more about the eye...I have brought both of my kids for different issues (DD went at 3.5mos to rule out 4th nerve palsy b/c she has torticolis.)  Good luck, I am sure he's fine but just get it checked.

  • gosh, I don't know. I would think as long as he didn't bonk his head and have vomiting hopefully it's nothing at all. good luck and keep us posted! I'll say a prayer, but I'm sure he's perfectly fine! :)

  • DD has it.  I forget the technical name for it.  You are right that in most cases, it's completely harmless.  My pediatrician is not at all concerned (and actually, his son has the same thing), but it is on my to do list to take her to a pediatric ophthalmologist just to confirm that there is nothing serious behind and to have it correctly documented in her medical records.
