Baby Names

Jordan Michael

What are your thoughts?  I'm asking for my sister.  Her boyfriend wants to name their baby that.

Re: Jordan Michael

  • After Michael Jordan??

  • no but that was my thought and hers.  He just likes Jordan, and Michael is a family name, but she and I both had the same thought about it, so I wanted to see if anyone else did.

  • Reminds me of Michael Jordan.  In fact some of my students suggested naming my DS this.
  • I like it - I think it sounds nice together, but yet it right off the bat reminded me of Michael Jordan. Of course I wonder how many of our kids will know who he is you know?
  • Reminds me too much of Michael Jordan. If they really want to name their baby that they're nothing wrong with it.

Very Michael Jordan-ish. And Jordan is so popular as a girl name that its almost been "stolen" by the female sex.

Also our thoughts.  She likes Jordan for a girl, but he only likes it for a boy.  She hates it for a boy, especially with Michael.

  • Jordan MIchael is my brothers name.  I like it. I don't think that today many people are going to think of Michael Jordan as much as in the 90's. Even when he was born in the late 80's no one really mentioned it being like Michael Jordan.

Ditto. DH is good friends with a guy named Jordan and it just doesn't "fit" him because it sounds really feminine.?

  • Sorry...Michael Jordan came to mind instantly.
  • In print, the first thing I think is Michael Jordan.  But that said, how often do you ever know somebody's middle name?  It seems like that's more of a family thing.  He'll just be Jordan X to everyone else and the Michael Jordan thing won't really be an issue.
  • Michael Jordan?

This is what I was going to say. Now when I think of Jordan I think female.

  • I do think the kids still know who Michael Jordan is, especially the inner city kids, but that may not apply to you. I don't think people generally use their middle name much, so it probably would not be a big deal, but when you hear it together, definitely conjures up the basketball legend. I also kind of agree that Jordan is a bit feminine now, but still could be used for a boy. Some names are just unisex.
