Ava is our first choice- but then we get nervous about it being so popluar! But honestly I only know of one Ava around us. And that is a friend of a friend. I don't know any Olivia's either.

Extremely! Seems like there is a Ava, Olivia, Emma, Emily, Madison, Kayley, Mackenzie, Aiden, Brayden, Caden and Owen born every day at the hospital I work at.
I'll never forget the day that 5 Aidens were born. All w/ different spellings!

I don't know any girls named those names...although I really don't know any children at this point. Olivia was one of my top choices, but my husband vetoed it. His dumb excuse was it reminded him of Olivia Newton John....WHAT??? Who cares!
My 3 year old niece, who lives in Pennsylvania, is Ava. My sister told me that she took her to a museum kids' event and of five girls there, THREE were Avas.
A friend of mine, who lives in NJ, just had a baby named Olivia. I don't know too many others of those.
If you go to the SSA website, you can see the top 5 names by state, that might help you.
I'm from Ohio, where I know about 6 Olivia's and 3 Ava's, but here in SC I know 2 Olivia's and no Ava's. In Mass. where my in-law's live, there are lots of Ava's and no Olivia's. I would definitely check out your state (link above).
I can think of three off the top of my head, and they seem pretty popular to me. Maybe you should check out your state list if you're curious. The might be further down the list there.
Re: How popular are these two names where you live?
love the names.
we are in raleigh, nc
First of all, I LOVE both names!
I know of only one Olivia. I don't know any Avas yet.

I know of three Ava's and two Olivia's.
I'd avoid if popularity is of concern to you.

They're common in my area but they are so cute and I'm not sick of them like I am Madison.
