Babies: 3 - 6 Months

if you use similac alimentum

did it help your baby? DD is still crying during her bottles and having a hard time finishing them. She takes 3 oz then screams when I try to feed her the rest. She barely makes the minimal amount of 20 oz a day. I called the doctor and the one we usually see was in not in today so the other doctor suggested switching to this. It smells so bad. How long does it take to see a change?

  • i saw a change withing the first couple of days. He really hated the taste at first but soon started to eat it and now takes between 28-30 oz a day

Agree with this poster! DD is a different baby now. She eats anywhere from 32-36 oz a day now

  • We switched early (6 weeks) and saw a change within a few days as well.  The poops are less frequent and yes the formula smells like dog food but LO doesn't seem to mind.

  • My son started on enfamil  premium newborn, then was having some serious gas and was obviously in pain, we switched to soy, which seemed better but not significantly.. Our pedi suggested the alimentum and it works wonders!  The pedi said it can take up to 2 weeks for the old formula to be totally out of the baby's system and to see the effects of the alimentum, but let me tell you, WHAT a difference!  It smells like cheese but since my son has been on the alimentum he is the happiest little boy and no more stomach gas and pain, which makes me feel great that I helped him feel better.  He's been on it for about 2 months now and is doing wonderfully.

  • DD hated it when we first started.  She would not eat and I was a mess.  After a few days she began eating a little better.  We switched to the Ready to Feed and she did soooo much better.  It's more expensive so I wasn't going to buy it.  When insurance started paying for her formula that's what they gave us.  I've read that the Ready to Feed is sweeter and that the powder has corn in it and many babies are sensitive to the corn (not sure where I read that but I'm pretty sure that's accurate).  The ready to feed is also a bit thicker.  She still spits up a ton but is overall happier.
  • DS#2 uses it. We went thru Similac, Similac Sensitive Fussiness and Gas, and soy. DS has eczema, and was dealing with diarreah (sp?)...I decided to try Alimentum and though we still have eczema, he no longer has diarreah. DS#1 had eczema as a baby too, so I am just thinking we'll have to deal with it. But DS#2 is such a happier baby now. We just deal with spit-up and eczema....and we think it smells like cheez-its.
