Weening down O2, I am freaking out

I just spoke with the doctor and they are weening down his O2 from 6L to 5L and I am freaking out...I keep telling myself to calm down but his A&B's finally stopped and I don't want him pushed to hard...Uggg...I am way to over protective but I can't help it.

Re: Weening down O2, I am freaking out

  • I remember going through exactly this and feeling the same way many times, especially when Cameron was so close to getting of O2 all together, but in the end he has to be pushed just a little at a time and if it's going to happen it's in the exact place for everything to go right.  Their bodies have to "figure it out" and sometimes a little push is all it takes. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
  • I remember feeling the exact same way when Logan was switched from the CPAP to nasal canula.  I was so worried that he wouldn't be able to breathe and that it all happened to soon after he was born.  The nurse assured me that they wouldn't do it if they didn't think that Logan could handle it...she was right!  I will keep Trey in my prayers and hopefully soon you'll be posting that they're weaning him even more!

  • Thanks ladies...Just keep telling me it will be okay! I need it.  You are exactly right I just keep thinking, don't push him to hard, or to fast.. I feel like that is what they did with they started windowing him the first time.  They went from a 1 hr window to 2-3-4 back to CPAP.  The only reason he is on Pos Pressure nasal canula (which is a step in the right direction from CPAP) is because he had a open sore on his temple from the MRSA and he has done great with that.

Hang in there - they will be watching him closely and know what's best!
