Anyone ever heard of this? I have been having really bad pains and pressure so my Dr. told me to go to the ER to make sure it wasnt contractions or anything (which I knew it wasnt, but thought I better be safe and listen) so the ER doc determined I was not having any contractions, but my pelvic bone was separated!! He said he sees it maybe once a year (just my luck) and it is only separated by millimeters, but it is enough to cause very bad pain. He told me by the time I am 37 weeks I will be begging my Dr to take her out!! He said the pain will not get better, only worse as the baby gets bigger, but it doesnt harm the baby at all. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this, and could let me know what im in for here...Thanks
Re: Pubic Symphysis Separation...
I believe I suffer from this but my doc wont diagnose me with it... why not sure but she is taking me off work next week! I cant walk or do anything with movement or else it causes pain! Its feels as if I kicked right between my legs.. oh and its worse at night I cant even get out of bed... My doc did say that there is a chance that my pelvic bone did not soften and that coould be causing the pain its been on going since 23 weeks....
What are you sypmtoms??
you can count on it getting worse...! I even tried a support belt no relief!
I had it with my DS. It did get worse, and was always much worse at night. I eventually got to work at home towards the end which helped since I wasn't sitting at my desk all day.
Hang in there!
That is exactly how I feel, I can barely walk without excruciating pain, and it hurts if I am laying down and I try to lift one leg at a time, or rolling over, anything that causes any kind of strain hurts really bad. The doc told me that my pelvic bone did soften which is what caused it to separate, and its not helping that the baby is sitting right on it. Sometimes if she switches positions it relieves it a little, but as soon as she goes back down there it is pain again. My Dr is talking about putting me on bedrest for it, but I realllyy dont want to have to do that. I hope yours gets better!! Good luck!
We share the exact same sypmtoms.... How crappy to spend our pregnancys like this! I am trying to enjoy mine as much as possible! I have 8 weeks to my c-section lets hope i make it to that date!lol GOOD LUCK to you as well! Oh and if your doc puts you on bedrest do it dont be stubborn like I am still trying to work... But I have made up my mind june 3rd is my last day of work.... Doc said when ever i was ready to let her know and thats the set date...
Hope you feel better as well!
I have had issues with my pelvis since about 20 weeks. I have an inverted hip on the left side, so most of my pain has been in my left groin. It really hurts to walk, turn over in bed, lift my knees, etc. Now that I'm farther along I'm also feeling pain in the pubic symphysis area, especially at night and first thing in the morning. I went to physical therapy for 6 weeks and it helped a lot. My PT gave me exercises to do at home and I was able to go from not being able to walk for more than 5 minutes to being able to walk for almost 30 minutes. Also, my big fear was that it would get worse and I would be on bed rest at the end. She said in her experience not everyone gets worse and that it's not inevitable that you'll be on bedrest or immobile just because you have SPD. Doing exercises that strengthen the muscles that hold your pelvis together can go a long way to stabilizing or minimizing the pain.

I've posted this before for someone with pelvic pain...I just copy and pasted it from my other post. (sorry it's so long)
My pelvic pain started at 24-25 weeks and my OB said it could be pelvic symphysis misalignment/seperation which can happen in pregnancy. He said telltale signs of this condition can include:
When your laying in bed and switch sides is it more painful in your pelvis and inner groin? (I would have to have my DH help me keep my legs together when I switched sides, that helps. I would scream out at night it would hurt so bad)
Is it unbearable to put your pants on one leg at a time?
I see a physical therapist once a week to help with the pain and realign my pelvis...I think some people see chiropractors for this too?
My therapist said I could help the pain by
1. Kegels and "butt squeezing" to strenghten the pelvic floor
2. Keep your knees together when changing positions in bed and when getting in and out of the car. (swing your legs out together before standing up)
3. Wear satin/silky pajamas or have satin sheets to help moving in bed. *this HELPS a lot!!!!! At least for me it is.
4. Do gentle swimming this summer to strenghten your inner thighs.
5. He advised me NOT to favor one side/leg or the other because that could cause my muscles to pull my pelvis out of alignment more.
6. Use heat and cold packs to help the pain.
7. Keep a pillow inbetween your legs when laying down.
I would talk to your doctor...I've been doing what the therapist suggested for a week and it already seems better. I hope this helps. Good luck!
