S/O: Mommy?s driving a minivan post.

No disrespect to anyone, but I will NEVER EVER drive a minivan. Yes, they are roomy and have sliding doors, but I can?t bring myself to do it. Coming from a family of 4 kids and what felt like a lifetime of climbing in and out of minivans, I cringe at the sight of one.
Maybe a cool looking SUV (like a Nissan Murano), but no van here!
Anyone agree with the above statement?

  • Yup, I'm with you.  My mom got one once when we were younger and she hated it!  Got rid of it almost as fast as she got it.  I just got a Tahoe and LOVE IT!!!  Fuel mileage really isn't bad either, the newer models will take E85 and they will also shut off some of the cylinders when they are not needed.  I like the Murano too!!  We also tried out the Chevy Traverse (similar to the GMC Acadia) and I loved it (DH didn't care for it though)

  • I agree.  Just not my thing. DH used to have one as a company car and I just was not comfortable driving it.  I do drive a large SUV which I love.  I don't really cringe at the sight of one, just not really my style.  If I had more than 2 kids I would probably reconsider because the features of the minivan!
  • me either!!

my sil has one and they are convenient & roomie..but i just cant bring myself to do it.  we have an suv and when we grow out of that we will get another one with a third row.

i will say that i am jealous of the sliding doors.  its hard getting ds in the middle seat without taking out another car... but i will manage :)

I made the same statement very loudly prior to having twins - I'm a city girl who didn't own a car until she was 32!  BUT, I love my Sienna.

I'd bet big bucks that you'd end up w/ one if you had twins now.

  • I used to say that.  Right now I drive a Honda CRV and it's nice.  But it is a pain to crawl across the seat to get to the middle where the car seat is.  It will probably work for 2 kids just fine.  But I think I'm slowly getting the idea in my head that a minivan wouldn't be so bad.

I drive a compact car so I cannot imagine driving a larger car around.

But I'd rather drive a minivan than ANY of those enormous monster looking cars like Tahoes and Denalis. Ford has one with 10 tires or something. It just looks absurd.

I'd rather climb into a minivan than a monster truck.

  • Never say never: You never know what twists and turns life may throw you. I have no choice but to drive a mini-van now that we have two kids plus my disabled MIL living with us. There's no way we can fit into a regular car and a minivan is much more easily made handicapped accessable than a SUV.

I?m totally with you on that, too. I wouldn?t buy a ?monster truck? either.
I?m more attracted to the smaller SUV?s.
Right now I?m driving a Honda Accord, and it?s great and all, but I will eventually need more room.

  • we're looking into the Chevy Traverse and Hundayi Veracruz. Both are 7 passanger SUVs but still smaller than most.

with 2 infants and my 8 yr old who's still legally needs to be in a booster - - he's small, we'll have a full boat.

  • I'll never drive a minivan for the same reason I wear stilettos - I believe in form over function. If I'm driving a minivan it means that I'm being punished and the only other option my husband had was divorce.

    Ditto this exactly.

This made me LOL.  But after thinking about it, I'd have to agree with you :)

  • I agree with you also.  We drive small, fuel efficent cars.  We will not be buying a minivan ever.  There are more options than have to resort to that if I needed a larger car.

    ew, minivan and ew, SUV.

Station Wagon.  Subaru Outback...4 wheel, good gas milegage. Wayyyyyyyy better than an SUV or Minivan.  This is my dream "mom" car.

  • Yup.  I will NEVER drive a minivan.  DH keeps teasing me and saying it's only a matter of time.  I told him it will be a cold day in hell first before I'm ever behind the wheel of one of those.  Totally NMS.

  • I said the same thing, but with we plan on having one more child.  We also drive to our lake house 4 hours away about 2 times a month in the summer with a 100lb dog that gets car sick.  I am starting to come around to the idea of a mini van so that the dog stops puking on the baby and the baby stops puking on the dog. No idea why they lean over and do that to each other, but it is gross.
