3rd Trimester

Rash over stretch marks?

I noticed that my stretch marks had gotten FAR more itchy than normal the past couple days, and discovered that I seem to have developed a mild rash (lots of little bumps) over them. I'm trying my hardest not to scratch, and trying to keep lotion on it but it isn't really helping much.

I don't have a rash anywhere else, and I have no other abnormal symptoms along with it. From what I've read in my pregnancy books and a couple brief searches online it sounds normal and nothing to be concerned about - but I also haven't done too much research into it since I prefer not to freak myself out :)

I'll definitely be bringing it up at my appt. on Tuesday, but if you've experienced this what was it and is there anything you would recommend for the itching?

Re: Rash over stretch marks?

  • Have you looked up Pupps?  It kinda sounds like that which isn't bad, but can be super annoying.  cortisone cream would be my recommendation.  It helps with all red and itchy stuff.

Sorry you are dealing with that now too!  Tell Harper to be nice to mommy!

  • Yeah PUPPS was my first guess - but from what I've read it sounds like it shows up other places too and I haven't seen any other rashes yet...but who knows.

There was another type of rash (blanking on the name) that tends to show up over stretch marks in the last week of pregnancy and I'm thinking that could be it also.

If I run out to the grocery store for soup ingredients later, I'll pick up some cortisone cream and see if that helps!

And yeah, I really need a break from these late pregnancy symptoms...I'm falling apart at a rapid rate :(

  • Not sure if it's PUPPs or not, but a coworker's wife developed a rash (that was later ID'd as PUPPs) and her doctor recommended the old oatmeal bath remedy...fortunately, she wound up delivering not too much later, but I think it helped her get through a few pretty annoying days worth of itching!

I'll try the oatmeal bath too, that sounds really relaxing and would probably help a ton! Thanks!

  • Yeah I showed my Dr. at my last appt and he said it wasn't pupps just to put benadryl cream on it. I had some cortozone (sp) cream and it didn't much good at all, so I'm gonna try benadryl next time I go to the store. It's such a biitch! I was miserable last night, lliterally in tears!
