good morning girls!

MH sent this to me yesterday and i wanted to share. An article about the poor economy and how it has made more women put together adoption plans.

You can read it here.

  • Thanks! I forwarded it to my DH. It is sad that money is becoming such a huge factor. As excited as I am to be a mom, my heart breaks for those who want to and cannot afford it.

i wonder if the pool of adopters has shrunk as the pool of emoms choosing adoption has grown?

In both foster placements i've had, finances have had a significant impact in both cases.  It's so sad!

I was wondering that too.  I was also wondering (hoping) if agencies are reducing their fees to help make it more manageable for APs.  I think I know the answer to that though.

good thought from both! However, i doubt the later.

  • What is interesting is that our agency, being large and having a long history in adoption and working with BM and families from all over the US, said that they have not seen an increase in BM's coming to them for an adoption plan because of the current state of the economy. They said that BM are no more stating financial hardship as a reason for placing for adoption than at any other time. Financial hardship is generally the #1 reason BM's place anyway - so they are not seeing any increase than normal because of the current state of the economy based on historical numbers
