I just love the nn Addy so much and Adeline/Adelyn reminds me too much of my cousin Madeline. I feel like Addison has become really popular but I don't personally know anyone who's used it.....tx for your help!
I think it seems more popular on this board than it actually is. It was #12 on the SSA list. That is really not that popular when you look at actual birth #'s relative to all other names.
have you ever though of just Addy. What about Adel?
I'd prefer something a little less gender neutral than using just Addy - IMO ppl may may have to guess what sex she is (by name alone). Adel is really cute! I was thinking of that today. Adel...Adelle...but with a short last name I loved the 3 syllables of Addison. Siigh....back to the drawing board
Honestly, I think it is too overdone. Before Grey's Anatomy, I'd only ever heard of boys named Addison. I think it became popular from that show and also as a variation of Madison (just like Adeline became popular as a spin-off of Madeline).
It's #13 on the Real Baby Name list with over 13,000 babies born with that name. Not too many, but I know a handful. My cousin named her daughter Addison, I know two boys named Addison, and then two young babies (born last year) through my friend's day care.
ETA: What about Adaline or Adalyn? I had a friend named Adelia growing up and we called her Dee, but Addy could work for that, too. Or Adrienne/Adriana. There are seriously a million options out there for "Addy" as a NN.

Oh if that's your concern do NOT go with Addison! It's a boys name that's been used to girls in recent years. So if your priority is a feminine name, try out some of the suggestions mentioned above. Though I'd never met a male that goes by Addy/Addie.
I know one, IRL- I guess it's just how important a different sounding name is to you- I've used this example before, but my name, Laura, peaked at about #10 or so in the SS site, and I haven't known many others- maybe 1 or 2 throughout middle and high school-? I don't feel like I have a super common name (like, I rarely had to be Laura L. in school).
If the nickname is what you're really in love with, I think Adele is beautiful and not popular at all
LOVE Adele!?
I was Laura L. before I got married too and I totally agree with you. I rarely meet other Lauras, especially not Laura L's ?

The name Adeline has been around since at least the 18th century so I really don't think it became popular simply because of the Madeline trend. It's a name all on its own. Adeline/Adelyn and Adelina are my favorites. Adelaide is pretty too, but I wouldn't use it because it reminds me too much of a drink (like lemonade or kool-aid lol).
ETA: I only know two Addisons- a guy that's in his 20's now and a little girl just born a month or two ago.
haha! So many different opinions! Addison is my DD's name. Love it (of course!) and she's the only one in her entire school w/ that name. All depends on where you live. Ask some mom's w/ young kids in preschool if any of their classmates have that name.
Re: Do you think Addison is overdone?
Love Adelaide! But our last name sounds like "May" so names sounding in a long A are unfortunately out
i don't think addison is overdone - i don't know anyone with that name.
i just don't like it.

I don't personally know anyone named Addison and I do really like the name. My favorite Ad name is Adelina.

You could use the name Adelle and break it up by using a longer name
Adele Isabella
Adele Elizabeth
Adel

I'm not big on the whole Addison/Adeline/Adelyn craze. Reminds me of what happened with the name Aiden in the past few years.
Maybe use Adelaide?
I know of 1 Addison out of the 20 or more babies that have been born in the last couple of years that I know!!
Really, who cares. I think it is an adorable name!
