Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Hi, new here, and I need diaper rash help!

So DD Lucy has had a yeast diaper rash for a few weeks.  It comes, it goes.  We've been to the pedi twice for it.  Once, she gave us Nystatin cream or something like that.  The second time, it was oral medication- Diflucan.  It's back... again, and she's not even done the Diflucan. We also have switched to cloth diapers, which is helping a bit.

I'm going to call the pedi, of course, but was wondering if anyone had a similar experience, words of advice, flames for not changing her diaper enough (on average 7 times a day) or anything.

  • We use Calmoseptine (sp?) ointment. I buy it at the Target pharmacy but you can find it other places. It is kind of pricey but works like a charm. It is the only thing we use.

It is not cd safe though. So, we use disposable when we use it or I put it about 3 fleece liners so it doesn't get on the diaper.

  • DD has had the same problem for a little while now and I found that the Nystatin didn't help much. My pedi recommended trying over-the-counter 7-day Monistat cream. Apply it 4 times a day for 4 to 5 days. We're on day 4 and things have improved greatly. Good luck.
  • You can use OTC Monistat or Lotrimin (I always get the generic). ?Other than what you are already doing, I don't have any other suggestions. ?I hope it clears up soon.
  • I'll try the monistat, that seems like a good idea.  The pedi was surprised that the nystatin didn't do much.  And I'll keep an eye out for hidden sugar as well.  Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!
