Those who deal with GERD......

DD doesn't have any horrible health needs - my prayers go out to those of you who deal with MUCH more..... but I have a question I wonder if you're expereince can help me with.

So - DD has a history of GERD. She's 15 mo. Been off meds for GERD for several months, successfully except for Carsickness.

She started with a stomach bug 13 days ago (along with the rest of us). Well, the rest of us have long been better & she is continuing to be sick (vomiting and diarreah) ONLY AT NIGHT!

She wakes up lethargic & dehydrated from the events overnight  & then we rehydrate all day & feed her light bland foods upon her request.

My GUT is telling me that her GERD is acting up again and THAT is the reason  she can't get over this. I can't explain the diarreah - except that her gut is just not able to heal. I feel that if she could just get a day of IV fluids instead of putting stuff in her belly MAYBE she could get over this.

Any of you deal with a stomach virus that has presented this way? I am disappointed in myself for not being more strong about pushing for fluids - but at the same time - I want to trust the Pedi... He has given her meds for nausea/diarreah/reflux/probiotics/ the worx basically....

HELP!!!

It's tough to say - especially with a kiddo that young. I totally understand you wanting to trust the Pedi, who doesn't, but have you taken her to a pediatric GI? I'm kind of at the point where I feel our Pedi is more of a well visit, ear infection doc and the specialists are for when DS is sick or having issues. It kind of seems like your Pedi is casting a wide net to address a single problem and hoping something works.  If your gut tells you GERD, you're the Mom, you're probably right.

With DS, we thought he had outgrown the GERD (silent) around a year and took him off the meds and we thought he was just having texture/sensory issues with eating.  Turns out we were wrong with DS and as soon as we put him back on Prevacid (6 months later) he made great strides with feeding.

I called the pedi GI today to get a 2nd opinion. I didn't hear back yet - but they have the notes of what my question/theory is. I hope I hear back -OR- she is miraculously healed tonight.

    Thanks for your reply.

DD doesn't have any GERD issues, but we had the flu/stomach virus this winter.  DH and I were sick for about 12 hours actively throwing up, but took us a couple days to feel 100%.  DD got it and was sick for three weeks, puking and dirreha.  It took her FOREVER to get over it.  It was minimal at the end, just throwing up or dirreha once a day for a couple days, but it took a long, long time.  So, it may in fact, just be a stomach bug.

HOWEVER, if your gut is telling you something, go with it.  You know your kid the best and there's no harm in getting her checked out.  GL!

Good to know *English.. I will keep that in my file of thoughts as we deal...

I KNOW it started as a stomach bug - [[the only at night]] part is the part that is perplexing....
