Low ambiotic fluid?

I spent the weekend in L&D because my Dr. was worried about my ambiotic fluid being too low.  It's measuring about 7.6cm instead of 12-14cm.

Has anyone else had this?  Did they figure out why?  I'm going to visit a high risk OB this week and placed on bed rest until they have more knowledge of what's going on.

If anyone has gone through this or know someone that has, please PM me or reply in this thread.

TIA

  • My SIL had this. Everthing turned out totally fine, they just told her to drink LOTS of fluids.

Did it help?  I feel like I'm drowning in fluids right now, but they have only been monitoring it for the past 30-some hours so it hasn't made any changes yet.

  • Yeah, it helped, she got to the point where she just couldn't make herself drink so much anymore. In the end she had to end up getting induced, my neice was completely perfect.

  • My friend had this she didn't say much about it except that they had to break her water for her, and something about having her ultrasound done differently and more often to make sure everything was fine.

But her baby was fine and is soooo beautiful! Hang in there bedrest sucks but its worth it!

  • I was put on BR for low amniotic fluid ( one of the reasons anyway) and was told to drink lots of fluids. Next week I went in for a growth/ biophysical ultrasound and I had more fluid. My doctor said it was more than likely the intake in fluids and the fact that I was on BR. Take it easy and do what your doctor says... Good Luck :)
  • Thanks everyone!  It's good to hear that everything went well.  Hopefully this is just a short term thing and everything will be better soon.

Thanks calex.  It's been such a roller coaster of emotions.  The baby seems to be ok, but my Doctor is so worried that it's really freaking me out.

  • My Baby A's fluid is a lot lower than that and they're not worried.  They told me as long as they can measure pockets >2 cm, they don't worry.  Mine is likely because he's squished into my pelvis with his brother on top of him.  They think is total fluid is fine, just pushed into smaller pockets.  They're watching it weekly and Thursday I'll have a BPP, NST, and growth scan.

They told me that low fluid can be caused by GD, but mine isn't.

I also haven't been put on any kind of restrictions because of this.  The baby is moving just fine and is scoring perfectly on each of his BPPs (8/8).
