NYC-area nesties, come in!!

I?m taking a few days around the 4th of July off and was thinking of bringing PAC into the city for a fun outing. We're going to stop by my job and DH's job, but I wanted to see if there were any shows or something like that for kids. Anyone know of a website I can go to that would have a listing of events around the city?

  • Definitely Central Park-Central Park zoo and the Carousel plus great playgrounds!

As for toddler-appropriate shows, there's often an Elmo show or something similar at the theater at Madison sq. garden, but you'll overpay for a traveling show that will likely play near you anyway.

check here for toddler friendly activities:

We've been dying to go to either the Manhattan childrens' museum or the Brooklyn Children's museum, but haven't made it yet!

The aquarium is a bit out of the way, near coney island, so keep that in mind.

  • oh, we'd definitely stay in Manhattan. I work Downtown, so I thought there may be something fun by the seaport or something. But I'll check that website out. I figured if all else fails, there's always Central Park. And we have the travel pass for Children's Museums, I should see if the Manhattan one is a participant. Thanks!

  • I don't think there's jack for him to do down here but I'd definitely head to central park and FAO Schwartz and the childrens museum!

    And Hi, I've missed you!

  • oh we love the children's museums!!!  We've been to the SI one, the Manhattan one and the Brooklyn one.. I think the one in Brooklyn is my fav.  there's one website that lists when the aquarium and zoos have their "by donation/free" hours.  Last fall the NY aquarium in Brooklyn's was on Friday afternoons... not sure about Central Park zoo... I haven't brought dc yet.  there was a website free nyc or nycfree or something along those lines... then I think there are movies at one of the harbor parks on the west side??? I have to look it up ... we've only been here (and by here, SI , not manhattan) for less than a year... but I remember someone recommending it... you could set up a picnic on a pier or a park near a pier and they showed family friendly movies.    If you're in the area, there are some NY stations through time warner cable that have specials on various neat places around the city... one show was all about stuff to do with kids.... and theres' the everything book you know the everything about whatever books... I cannot remember the title.. but it's stuff to do with kids in nyc.. my MIL bought it for us.... its been very useful... oh and the children's room at the big NY Public Library on 5th and 42nd has baby time and toddler times on Wed and Thursdays... I remember one was at 10:30 and the other was later.  you may want to call them. they also have the original Pooh Bear!  Winnie the Pooh.
