Connecticut Babies

New To CT

Hi CT Ladies!

My husbands job is sending him to Stamford, CT this August.  We are currently in London, England but are oringally from Ohio.  We've been asking people who he will be working with about areas to live that will keep him in proximity to Stamford, but also accessible to the city since he may have clients there time to time.  We've been told a lot of people from his office buy in Redding.  Any thoughts on this?

Also, if anyone is familiar with that area, can you recommend a good OB/GYN?  We are not trying for a baby just yet, but we will be soon so I would like to see someone there fairly soon after we move.  I'll be due for my annual this fall anyway.

Also, if anyone knows any good meet-up groups in that area I would be forever greatful.  I'm not currently working and do not plan to go back to work when we move back to the States (that's the plan anyway) so I'd like to get to know people in my area somehow.

I hope this board does come alive here soon.  I would definately like to get to know a few of you!

Thanks!

Kialee

Re: New To CT

  • welcome!  I not too familiar with right in Redding, but Danbury is about 10 miles away.  I go to Candlewood Center for Women there and like it a lot.

  • Thanks!  I've heard Danbury is nice as well be we didn't know if it would be too far of a commute.  DH is trying to keep it around 30 mins from Stamford and accessible to the trains if he does have to go into the city.  I've looked online a bit but its hard to really get a feel for an area or a house unless you are there and see it in person.  We will be coming over for a househunting trip in June/July so hopefully we can get a better idea then.

BTW - Your little one is so cute.

  • Thank you :)  Danbury is about an hour from Stamford.  Good luck on your house hunting trip!

  • We live not far from Redding, in Fairfield. My DH works most of the time in downtown Manhattan but also occassionally in Stamford - the train ride to Stamford is about 25 minutes and you can drive there during rush hour in about 30. I use OBGYN of Fairfield County and really liked them. The Nurse Practitioner who does the annual appointments is fantastic and I was incredibly pleased with the doctors during my pregnancy and delivery. As for meeting groups, I know a few people who are involved in the Welcoming Committees is both Fairfield and Westport and they've met some nice women that way. Good luck!

Thanks!  It helps to have a few ideas rather than go blindly based on providers listed on our insurance company's website.  Location wise, we are fairly certain we would like to be north a bit, it seems you get more for your money up there.  We like the coast, but we're not willing to pay the premium to live close to it.  We are doing a househunting trip in June and I'm very excited to come check it out.  There's only so much you can do by looking online.

  • Hello and welcome to CT! I don't kown the area, I live up north more in the hartford county but wanted to wish you lots of luck!
