I swear to ya'll, I'm about to join Robbie in a temper tantrum (which he has started throwing. Fun times.)
I'm on my 4th shirt of the day and Robbie's on his 3rd outfit.
We had a honeymoon period after his last surgery.. we went 2 1/2 weeks with NO puking, but since then, it's been worse than ever. We had a flare up last week where he was screaming in pain.
We've adjusted his meds and we seem to be on top of the pain, but of course, wretching and gagging and puking just sucks, no matter if it burns or not. So after every feeding, you hear his tummy betrying him and then it comes. Puke puke puke.
About 20 minutes of crying, heaving.. and then it's done.
I realize we've done what we can do. The meds control the burn.. and he even has a fundo.. but we're still doing this.
If it were just the extra laundry, that would be fine. Annoying- but fine. But I'm so tired of him looking at me like "mommy, what is HAPPENING?:" and then when he gets done puking, he just collapses in exhaustion for a little while. It breaks my heart.
WTF haven't they figured out how to FIX THIS YET?
*sigh*
Re: I'M SO TIRED OF PUKE. *VENT*
Oh noooooo
Okay, I know this is very strange sounding, but Sweater on the multiples board has a baby with horrible puking that's about Robbie's age. She has been taking him to a chiropractor and it seems to be helping a bit. If you paged her over there I'm sure she'd share her experience w/you. Maybe it's time to start looking into alternative treatments for your little guy?
God@amn I wish there was something I could do to help all these babies with the puky tummies. This SUCKS.
And, I keep meaning to tell you but I keep forgetting. My husband, who is 35 years old and overweight if anything has pretty terrible reflux caused by a hiatial hernia. He wasn't diagnosed until he was in his late 20s, and he never had the throwing up problem that Robbie has (but MIL is pretty clueless and she said he had horrible colic as a baby - I'm guessing his constant screaming was because his tummy hurt a lot), but I wanted to tell you that there's at least 1 adult out there that grew up into a normal, healthy guy despite the blasted hernia.
I'm so sorry. I would give everything I own to be able to figure out why they do this. And I hate to say this but it seems to get worse when they cut their teeth. They have more saliva and so they throw up more through out the day. Last night I went through every single tshirt I own and on the last one I just gave up and went to bed with two sets of baby vomit on me. The fundo doesnt' really stop the vomiting and reflux, neither does the GJ tubes, and they can't give more meds than we're already on. Poor Evan is a lethargic and miserable mess. Cameron is restless and hits his head with his little hand hard and yanks on his ear and lips and won't go to sleep. Today Evan had a tiny bit of blood in his vomit all day, but the GI said they won't/can't do anything until they see lots more blood indicating tube misplacement. *sigh*
I know exactly the look Robbie gives you. It's so heartbreaking.
mrs.d.. I actually have a friend who was dx in her teen years and they suspect she was born with one as well.. She's also a pharmacist so she's always giving lots of sympathy and drug advice..
She has some trouble with it, it flares up, but she mostly does pretty well.
The thing right now is 1) the pain. But also he's not gaining weight AGAIN, even though he's getting PLENTY of calories and I know it's because he's puking so many of them back, plus I know the actual act of puking and being in pain just burns more calories. But what do I do? If I push more food, he just pukes more.
I'm SO FREAKIN' FRUSTRATED.
And I keep thinking things will improve.. and honestly, his tummy seems to do pretty well with solids, so I think if he'd eat more solids, he'd do better, but he won't eat hardly ANYTHING..
Ugh. Did I mention I'm frustrated?
Seriously, it's just been a really bad week or 10 days of this and I'm pulling my hair out.
My Blog
Hugs to all the reflux mamas! I hope these days are numbered for each of you...
At the worst times around here, I actually wore my apron around the house, that way I could take it off instead of changing my clothes lol... It worked a little! Kind of like a bib for mom's!
