Parenting after a Loss

Does pg affect cholesterol?

i gave blood the end of march (about 8 weeks post partum) and i just checked my cholesterol levels online. it was 194! 200-240 is the borderline high risk.

do you think that pg/postpartum stuff affects cholesterol levels? there's a log of the last 8 times i've donated and all were low except for this one and 2 others. one was when ds was about 2 months old and the other was during the semester i did my student teaching. we ate out a lot that semester and i gained about 15 lbs, so that one is understandable.

wdyt?

Re: Does pg affect cholesterol?

  • yes it does - that is why many pg women have gallbladder issues (gallstones are caused by cholesterol).

  • I *think* both pregnancy and breastfeeding effects cholesterol.

  • Yes, my doctor told me it does when I had a high reading during pregnancy (stupid insurance makes us get it checked every year).
  • Yes.  When I went for the bloodwork for my annual physical in November my doctor told me she was testing for cholesterol and warned me that it could be high because I had a baby (in April).  She told me that she wasn't concerned unless it remained high one year later.

Mine was around 130 I think.
