I have a McDonald cerclage and get weekly p17 shots due to IC.
I have had no problems up until now. This morning I had to pee and went to the bathroom and when I wiped I noticed something on the TP (sorry for the TMI). Upon closer examination, it looks like a piece of string/nylon so my assumption is that it is a piece of my stitch? It is only about 1/2" long and I have had no bleeding or anything.
Do they tie off the stitch and cut it or could this be a piece of excess that has just made its way down? Has anyone else experienced this? My only concern is that I could be dilating through my stitch, but wouldn't I feel that? I am also assuming that the piece of stitch would have been bigger if it was my cerclage.
I have an appt tomorrow so I can discuss with the doctor then. I just had an appointment a week ago tomorrow and I was high, long and closed measuring 4.37 cm.

Re: Ladies with a McDonald Cerclage
I have the Shirdokar (sp?) method so I'm no help, but I'm thinking of you!!!! I would think if you were dilating through your cerclage you would feel it. At least that's what I tell myself. Let me know how your appointment goes tomorrow. I have my weekly cervical check tomorrow so I'm hoping for no changes. Let me know how your appointment goes!!
Oh, called my doctor....I have anti-anxiety meds coming. I think that if I knew for a fact that I would make it full term that I wouldn't be so anxious!
Okay, sorry I replied to your other post before reading this one. The MacDonald cerclage is placed like a purse string. It is weaved in and out of the cervix and then pulled closed. Then it is knotted on the end. Concerning the dilation, IC is characterized by "painless dilation of the cervix". So, even with the cerclage in place you may not feel it.
I'd call your doc. At the very least, you can get in first thing tomorrow rather than waiting. This will just help to put your mind at ease. I'm sure that all is okay, but it's much better to be safe than sorry!
