I recently found out my brother's wife smokes while pregnant. He has done everything within his power to stop her (hides money, throws them away, etc) and is at his wit's end. She smokes while he is at work. I almost hope he takes the baby and leaves after she is born. I can not believe smoking KNOWING the harm you are causing. Totally selfish.
She doesn't look super pregnant. I still look like that and I'm 7 months out. I would have been afraid that I would have said something and she wouldn't have really been pregnant, but if she was, and probably, she was, shame on her.
Klassy. But here's the thing, even if you had said anything, it wouldn't make a difference. She's clearly going to smoke while pregnant. The fact that she has no qualms about doing it in public just shows how much she doesn't care.
Yes. I happened to be surfing my IPhone when I noticed her. For some reason, my first thought was to take a photo and show it to my husband. I don't know why... dumb. Anyway, then my bus started to come.
I was shocked. I don't know how you blatantly, knowingly, publicly put your unborn child at high risk for birth defects and SIDS.
She was most definitely pregnant. She was thin everywhere else.
Sorry. Didn't mean to sound biitchy. I know that even if you had said something, it wouldn't have really done anything. I probably would have just yelled at her. How horrible.
Gee, because it's all fine and dandy for a woman to smoke while pregnant. I judge her, and I don't care what you think. She is putting her baby at risk for a low birth weight and a slew of other issues.?
Did you smoke while pg? If you didn't, then I have no idea why you are not seeing this as a terrible thing to do to your unborn child.
I can only disagree if I'm guilty of the charge?
No, I didn't smoke while pg. But I didn't take my pre-natals, either. Should someone take my kids away for that? And GASP I drank coffee every morning. Want to judge me for that?

um...drinking coffee and smoking are two VERY different things. What exactly is judge-worthy for you? Drinking large quantities of alcohol?....cocaine?.... WHAT?
Smoking is absolutely horrible to do while you're PG and to think it's not is ignorant.

Ummm... wow... there is a big difference between not taking a vitamin and smoking. And also another big difference between drinking coffee and smoking. Do you really not see that?
And yes, I do judge you for not taking your prenatals. I'm reminded of that scene from Baby Mama...

Um, not to beat a dead horse but smoking while pregnant and not taking prenatal vitamins or consuming caffeine aren't really in the same ballpark.
I had an old co-worker that smoked a pack a day throughout her entire pregnancy because "the stress of quitting is to hard on the baby". Another woman told me that she was lucky to have gestational diabetes (which can cause large birth weights) so she had to smoke to keep the weight down. People's ignorance astounds me.
Ali-You can consider yourself as apart of the ignorant. Yes, I judge people that knowingly harm their baby. It's worse that riding in a car with your baby in your lap. There is no way that smoking while pregnant doesn't effect your baby. It might not show up right away but it's in your system therefore it's in your baby's. It should be considered child abuse along with not taking proper precautions against second hand smoke to a child. And I'm an ex-smoker. It's hard to quit but you do what you have to do for your unborn child.

Gabby YUCK! I'm hoping she just had a little too much beer! I live up in Marysville, and one day I was driving and saw someone walking down my street pushing a stroller, obviously pregnant and smoking....DOUBLE WHAMMY! it's just wrong!
AND WHO CARES if she judges....aren't you judging her for posting this?
Smoking, drinking and doing drugs are in NO way like NOT taking your vitamins and drinking coffee...I didn't take my vitamins either (they made me sick) and I had FULL caf mochas daily. My baby is just fine, that doesn't mean I won't be disgusted if I see someone smoking and pregnant.
In high school my boyfriend told a smoking pregnant chick that he could hear her fetus coughing. She started crying and told the principal-he got suspended!

While I don't necessarily condone smoking while pregnant, when I got preg. with DD, my OB asked if I smoked. I told him I did socially. He said if I am/was a long time smoker to make sure I cut back and TRY to quit. Not to quit cold turkey.
Clearly, I gave it up cold turkey and honestly it was very easy.
Some Drs. think that the stress of giving up the nicotine is worse than the nicotine itself. I dont' know...

Really? That sounds like 1960's-era mentality. I would think that knowing you're harming your baby while smoking would cause stress, too, but I guess some people just don't care.
Oh, and I meant the royal "you", not you personally MattsWifey. I think it's great that you were able to quit cold-turkey like that. I would think most people would put the health of their baby above their own personal vices, but that might not be the case.

Actually, it is the truth. Most doctors recommend that you cut back little by little. It is stressful enough for a body to go through nicotine withdrawl. That stress transfers directly to the fetus.

Yeah, I guess it does make sense. I originally was thinking more of the emotional stress rather than they physical stress your body goes through while withdrawing from the nicotine.

Can't believe people are STILL doing that.

I feel for her baby.

Good lord, judge much?
Maybe they are Marlboro Ultra Lights? Did you ever think of that? If they are Ultra Lights then it is OK! DUH.
My cousin use to smoke Marlboro Menthols...then when she got pg she switched to Non-menthol Ultra Lights. She told me it was OK then. IDIOT.
See, this is one of those things that I just shake my head at and walk away. No way in he!! would I take a pic of her.
People are doing far worse in this world. Trufax.

Didn't ali-1411 have another flamefest a few months ago?
Hmmm.. refresh my memory. I don't remember.
So is she just trying to get our goat? or is this for realz?
For reals???
I can't for the life of me remember what it was about!
