IVF Refund Program??

So, we went to our doctor's pre-IVF seminar this evening and came away with the question of whether or not we should opt into their IVF Refund program.  Anyone have any experience with this?  They are partnered with the Attain IVF program... what are your thoughts?  Our dilemma is mainly because we have MF issues, I'm kind of a question mark.  The only real issue with me is that I'm overweight, but otherwise no other female factor IF problems.  Below are some details on the program.

The Attain? IVF Program includes:

  • A single, discounted fee for treatment
  • Up to six cycles, including three fresh IVF cycles and three frozen embryo transfers.
  • A guaranteed refund if you don't take a baby home from the hospital ? 70 percent is refunded for IVF treatment and 100 percent is refunded for donor egg recipients.

Re: IVF Refund Program??

  • My clinic offers a few refund IVF packages, and also has some through Integra Med (?) They are really worth it is the first one does not work, but if it does you end up paying more. So really it depends on what your dx is and what your chances of success is that would make me decide to go that route.

  • I don't know about Attain, but we applied for shared risk at our clinic through IntegraMed and were denied for my BMI being over 30.  I would ask about that requirement because that was the only reason we were denied unfortunately.  We would have done it had we been approved and would have made up the costs after 2 fresh and 1 frozen cycle.

  • we did shared risk through our clinic. I was just sick about the amount of money upfront, but now that we're facing our 3rd fresh cycle we're actually going to come out ahead financially. it was worth it to us for peace of mind.

our plan includes 4 fresh cycles, unlimited frozen cycles, and 100% of money back if don't bring home live baby. the program is through our clinic, not through an outside company. we were able to use a capital one fertility loan to pay for part of it.

  • My clinic had one too.  My concern was that they said "if we get you pregnant for 12 weeks", then you had to pay the full amount, but I had a friend that did IVF twice and m/c both times after 12 weeks, so I wanted to clarify if that counted as "getting pregnant" or if a m/c meant you got your money back.  Yours sounds like "take a baby home", so that's better.  They also have other conditions that you have to meet, like how many embryo's you have etc. at the time of the ultrasound.  If you don't have enough you may not qualify. Otherwise, I do think it's a good program and I'd try it after you're sure all of your questions are answered.  I think the plan at my clinic is about $7000 more than the regular (with no refund), so totally worth it if you have a BFN.
  • our clinic does the same program.  we are going to use that starting with our next IVF.  sure, if we get pregnant the first time we just paid $18k for our baby, but that is more than worth it to me.

    good luck with your decision!

  • I don't have experience with that particular program, but I joined the Shared Risk plan with my clinic and it really ended up being to my benefit.

The cost to join was the same as two fresh IVF cycles and the program included 6 fresh cycles and any frozens in between. It did not include meds. It is a 100% refund if you did not have a live birth. You can drop out of the program at any time and get a 100% refund, but the clinic can also kick you out at anytime with a 100% refund.

I did three fresh cycles and one frozen cycle through the program before dropping out because we ended up having insurance benefits in 2009. They gave us a 100% refund.

It's an amazing program, if you can afford it, I would do it again in a heartbeat. The peace of mind knowing that you have additional cycles if you have a failed one is great to have. And if you get pregnant on the first cycle, well, you have a baby in your arms so is it really going to drive you nuts that you paid more for that cycle?

good luck with whatever you decide!
