I searched high and low for doubles and picked the Phil & Ted sport buggy with doubles seat. My dd is 3 y/o and petite, ds is 18m/o and small to avg. they are close in weight now. I did not use a double stroller for ds's first 9 months (he went into a hotsling or bjorn and I used the single, or dd walked and ds sat in the single) for a few reasons... we knew we were moving, but unsure if it would be a big city or not, I was so confused by options but couldn't find them all to play with them, and I was just flat out indecisive. I do love this stroller, but I'll try to be as non-biased as possible and include my other favs.
Pros- I never have to switch out strollers.. it can be a single or a double, b/c of my dd's size, either can go in the rear seat (honestly, even when ds was much lighter, she'd go in the rear with him sitting in the front, just take the child out of the rear seat first), love the adjustable handle as dh is 6' and I'm 4'11", moves better than my single strollers did (I have a peg perego pliko p3 and had a baby trend jogger), I have jogged with it as a single stroller, dc love the doubles seat, no problems with vision, dd likes to hop in and out of it at the mall, basket is large, but a taller child in the rear seat will occupy some space, given said this dd was measured at 36" in January and when she sits in the rear at the mall, I just put the diaper bag in first, then her and could fit our coats (mine and 2 dc) and a few small bags. when she walks I can fit a ton. fold is easy and quick, it's narrow enough that I can get through gymboree and I don't feel like I'm taking up the entire sidewalk when we're in manhattan (and I see them all over the place here), I can push it with both children in it with one hand while I manage walking a dog who is not a great walker, a perk to where I purchased it, the salesman put it together for me (which gets me to the cons)
Cons: the instruction manual and website suck, the canopy isn't the greatest, the recline is clips and zippers (but it does lay flat and you can put the todder in the front, I didn't use this, but a friend does and loves it, opening in the back so you can get to the newborn) which is a pain at times when trying to sit a fussy dc back up, see basket with rear child info in pros, unfolding is tricky and took some getting used to, I cannot jog with both children in it (it's not advertized as a jogger though, they specify it's not for jogging),
I checked out a ton of doubles, from Graco, Evenflo, Chicco to Urban Mountain (which a friend LOVES this brand and has a single and a double from this company), Baby Jogger (Loved the city series classic, but every side by side is wide, which if we had not moved to NYC, I'd have considered it more), and Bumbleride Indie Twin (NICE STROLLER, smooth ride, nice canopies, bulky fold, heavy, even the sales clerk said people brought it back or changed their mind after trying to fold it and lug it around). Maclaren was too flimsy for me as I walk a lot (walk a dog) and I couldn't for the life of me figure out the fold.
Overall I'm super pleased with it and am glad I purchased it. One day in FAO with it and seeing moms struggle with the the big bus graco double makes me appreciate the fact that I have this stroller. lol. It's my 3rd and favorite stroller. I am looking for a double jogger now b/c I want to train for a race. so that means another stroller... but my other double favs were not joggers either.
hope this is helpful. good luck with the decision. I highly suggest finding and playing with all options. A friend did buy this without and does love it. but there were other doubles I thought I'd love, but didn't and I thought I wouldn't want this one but it ended up being my fav. go figure?
here's the recall info .. it's on Phil & Teds e3 Single Buggy, e3 Twin Buggy and sport v1 Single Buggy Strollers sold between August '03 and August '08.
I have the Vibe but haven't used it as a double yet. I went with the Vibe because we travel often and I wanted my stroller to be able to collapse with the doubles seat attached. The Vibe is the only model that offers this option.
My husband and I both love pushing our stroller. It's a great stroller and I couldn't imagine trying to push a side by side in public. Although, I did see a PP Aria??? side by side in the airport the other day and thought it was really narrow.
I'm only chiming in because I have a few friends who have the P&T Sport. They all LOVE it. They all have two kids and the kids love riding in the back. It gives them their own special place to sit and it's also directly below you so they can have one on one time with their mommy. This is what my friends have said anyway.
From what I've read, the Sport is a tiny bit smaller than the Vibe. All the better for you!

have fun shopping
I seem to remember in Parents Magazine last month that this stroller got recalled. You may want to look that up.
FWIW: I think the bottoms seat of this stroller would be a total bummer to sit in.
here's the recall info .. it's on Phil & Teds e3 Single Buggy, e3 Twin Buggy and sport v1 Single Buggy Strollers sold between August '03 and August '08.
and then one for the dash (again sold in the summer of '08)
