I went to college the first time for agricultural education. Had I finished my degree, I would have ended up teaching ag. in a high school. I took some time off and have come back as an elementary education major. Now, I'm considering changing yet again to Biology in Secondary Education. I didn't get into any elem. edu. classes, so there wouldn't really be anything to change except the direction I'm headed. I've been doing some soul searching about what I want to end up teaching, and I realized that I settled on elementary education because I can obtain my degree online. Don't get me wrong, I love teaching elementary kids, but I feel more "at home" in a high school setting. I'm a substitute teacher and sub at every level, every class. *le sigh* If I do change my major, I'll have to go to the private college in our area--on campus. I think that the cost of private vs. online is almost a wash. Plus, if I teach in a 'high needs' area, like science, I can have nearly all (if not all) of my student loans forgiven.
Re: Seriously considering changing my major...again
I had one year left, two semesters before getting a degree in biology secondary education. I have considered many times going back and getting it.
now I am thinking of getting a masters in speech therapy. I have my MBA, but this would be a different direction for me and with all the kids have taught mw ith there therapy I think it would be a good fit. I do not know if I want to invest the time though, it would take about two years.
awesome! My brother is a biology teacher in NC...he moved down there to get experience and decided to live there permenently. He is also the head of the science dept at his highschool.
I wish his student loans were forgiven...he just got done paying them all off...just took 12 yrs.
